Disengagement Cost NIS 8 Billion
(IsraelNN.com) The Disengagement Authority reported to the government Sunday that the disengagement from Gaza and Northern Samaria cost the state of Israel at least 8 billion shekels. Those monies include compensation paid to the former residents of Gush Katif, but do not include costs to the Defense Ministry or the Lands Authority.
The government decided previously that the disengagement authority will continue to operate until the end of 2009. The authority is responsible for the housing and other needs of the former residents of Gush Katif who were uprooted from their homes in the disengagement in 2005.
