"The Holy Father's overall condition is good. In brief, the Holy Father can return to his residence", said Patrizio Polisca, the Pope's personal doctor, in a press release issued today by the Holy See Press Office regarding the Pope's surgery at the hospital of Aosta. "The Holy Father's injury was caused by an accidental fall in his residence", explained Polisca. "In the fall, the Holy Father broke his right wrist and was therefore taken to the hospital in Aosta to undergo a osteosynthesis, a surgical procedure to stabilise and join the end of his fractured bones. He was operated under local anaesthetic with the application of a cast at the hospital of Aosta". The Head of the Holy See Press Office, Father Federico Lombardi, said in an interview with Vatican Radio that "the surgery under local anaesthetic the Holy Father had to undergo to treat his fractured wrist went well and that the Pontiff is now expected to return to Les Combes later in the afternoon. As for the Pope's programme, we hope it can be maintained". Earlier in the day, Father Lombardi had confirmed the news of the injury pointing out that Benedict XVI managed to celebrate Mass and have breakfast before being accompanied to the Hospital of Aosta.

[Plate osteosynthesis of distal radius fractures--incidence, indications and results]

From 1.1.95 to 31.12.98 133 distal radius fractures were treated surgically. Internal fixation with a plate was carried out in 34 fractures (25%). 17 plates were placed dorsally, 16 plates on the volar aspect and one fracture was treated with a combined dorsal and volar plate. 29/34 fractures (87%) were reviewed 1 year after surgery. All fractures healed without further surgery. No infection occurred. 15 implants were removed. 23/29 (79%) internal fixations showed a good or excellent result, 6/29 (21%) a fair result. These 6 patients had in common: an intraarticular fracture (5), a volar tilt (5), a postoperative algodystrophy (5) or a secondary dorsal displacement (2). In conclusion: One fourth of all surgically treated distal radius fractures underwent plate osteosynthesis with about 80% of good or excellent results. Dorsal plate osteosynthesis showed better results than volar plate fixation. An additional, temporary external fixator in fractures with radial shortening proved a reliable help intraoperatively. Secondary displacement in these fractures did not occur.

Functional outcome and complications after volar plating for dorsally displaced, unstable fractures of the distal radius.

PURPOSE: Despite the recent popularity of volar plating for dorsally displaced distal radius fractures there is a paucity of data documenting the results of this treatment method. The purpose of this study was to determine the functional outcome of patients treated with volar fixed-angle plating for dorsally displaced, unstable distal radius fractures. METHODS: We reviewed the records of all patients treated at our institution with internal fixation using volar plates for dorsally displaced, comminuted distal radius fractures. Patients with follow-up periods shorter than 12 months were excluded from the study. Outcomes were evaluated at the latest follow-up examination with the Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder, and Hand and the Gartland and Werley scoring systems. RESULTS: We studied 41 patients with a mean age of 53 years. The average follow-up period was 17 months. All fractures were stabilized with volar locking plates. Radiographs in the immediate postoperative period showed a mean radial height of 11 mm, mean radial inclination of 21 degrees , and mean volar tilt of 4 degrees. At fracture healing the mean radial height was 11 mm, mean radial inclination was 21 degrees, and mean volar tilt was 5 degrees. The average score on the Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder, and Hand questionnaire was 14 and all patients achieved excellent and good results on the Gartland and Werley scoring system, indicating minimal impairment in activities of daily living. Nine patients experienced postoperative complications. There were 4 instances of loss of reduction with fracture collapse, 3 patients required hardware removal for tendon irritation, 1 patient developed a wound dehiscence, and 1 patient had metacarpophalangeal joint stiffness. CONCLUSIONS: Patients with unstable, dorsally displaced fractures of the distal radius treated with volar fixed-angle devices have good or excellent functional outcomes despite a high complication rate. When compared with previous reports on dorsal plating volar plates appear to have a higher incidence of fracture collapse but a lower rate of hardware-related complications. Complex fracture patterns thus mandate a careful and individualized approach.

What the pope has been doing lately is exactly that:

placing secret obstacles in front of UNSUSPECTING ISRAELIS, DOING THINGS IN THE DARK, IN SECRET, TRYING TO GET WHAT HE WANTS IN ROUNDABOUT WAYS - I.E. THE KNESSET LAND REFORM.

AGAIN, EXACT DIVINE RETRIBUTION FROM ABOVE: AN EYE FOR AN EYE, A TOOTH FOR A TOOTH.

This reminds me of the story of Pharaoh, who was going to the Nile secretly every morning to relieve himself; he had presented himself as a god with no need for bodily functions: So....

In the same vein, the Vatican is very careful to COVER-UP the fact that the pope FELL WHILE ATTENDING TO HIS BODILY FUNCTIONS: HE HAD TO PEE in the middle of the night, just like every other old man, for G-d's sake!.

And Hashem BROKE HIS ARROGANCE by making him fall right there, in the toilet.

But Rome is trying very hard to HIDE THIS FACT.

So my job is to REMIND EVERYBODY of the NATURE OF THIS POPE: just an old man, very fallible - literally: fallible means ; WHO CAN FALL - - and plain.

After Hillary, BENEDIKT! Whoever touches Jerusalem loses the use of his right hand. The pope is plotting against Am Yisrael in Eretz Yisrael non-stop!

VATICAN CITY — Hospital officials and the Vatican say Pope Benedict XVI broke his right wrist in a fall during his vacation in the Alps.

Tiziano Trevisan, a spokesman at the Umberto Parini hospital in Aosta, told The Associated Press, "The pope will be held for a few hours as the doctors treat his fracture. He will then stay for observation."

Trevisan said doctors had taken an X-ray of the pope's right wrist and found a small fracture. The pope is 82 and has been healthy during his five-year pontificate.

Vatican spokesman the Rev. Federico Lombardi said earlier that Benedict "slipped and got hurt" but "it doesn't seem to be serious."

Lombardi said the pope went to the hospital in Aosta for an examination after the accident.

"The most upsetting thing for him is not being able to write, something that he had planned to do frequently during these days," Lombardi said.

Pope 'can't pray' with wrist in plaster

AOSTA, Italy — Pope Benedict XVI celebrated mass Saturday with his broken wrist in plaster but bemoaned an inability to clasp his hands together in prayer, his closest officials said.

"He is learning to live with a right wrist in plaster," Federico Lombardi told AFP, the day after the pope was hospitalised after a fall while on holiday. "The most difficult thing for him is having to give up writing."

He had slipped and fallen in his bedroom during the night, a Vatican statement said.

The ring which features the figure of St. Peter casting his net from a fisherman's boat, is traditionally kissed by the faithful when they meet the pontiff in a sign of respect.

Clinton Says Israeli Position on Settlements Likely to Soften

June 17 (Bloomberg) -- Israeli opposition to a complete freeze of settlement activity in the West Bank is likely to evolve into a stance that will lead to creation of a Palestinian state, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said.

"If one looks at Israel's history, there have been prime ministers going back to the beginning of its statehood who have staked out positions which have changed over time," Clinton told reporters in Washington today after meeting with Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman.

Clinton said that through past negotiations, Israeli leaders "have moved to positions they never would have thought they could have advocated."

U.S. officials are trying to lay the foundations for talks between Israel and the Palestinian Authority as part of a broader regional peace effort.

The U.S. special envoy for the region, former Senator George Mitchell, said yesterday that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's acceptance of Palestinian statehood and the threat posed by Iran's nuclear program have created a "realistic" chance for Middle East peace.

Netanyahu said in a June 14 speech that a Palestinian state would have to be demilitarized and its establishment contingent on its recognition of Israel as a Jewish homeland and Jerusalem remaining the capital of Israel.

Clinton predicted a compromise on settlements was possible after Lieberman said his government "cannot accept" the principle of an absolute freeze.

"We must keep natural growth," he said, referring to marriages and deaths that compel changes in West Bank settlements that are a major impediment to a peace agreement with the Palestinians and Arab nations in the region.

So the question is, who had soap bubbles and oil under their shoes? Was it Clinton, or was it the journalist?
