Israeli Arrested for Warding Off Intruders
(IsraelNN.com) A resident of the Jewish village of Mitzpe Eshael in the southern Hevron hills region was arrested on Thursday for firing in the air in an attempt to ward off local Arabs and extreme leftists who were approaching his community. The leftists and Arabs argue that they were trying to work Arab ground, while local Jews say the land in question belongs to the state of Israel.
The leftists were members of the Rabbis for Human Rights group led by Reform Rabbi Arik Asherman. Asherman was recently detained in Jerusalem for inciting local Arabs to riot and preventing the evacuation of a wounded Jewish man.
Jewish National Front activist Itamar Ben-Gvir accused police of arresting the victim and letting the attacker go free. "It's no secret that the extreme left and the anarchists make provocations and stir up violence in the area, and they should be prevented from entering the area," he said.
