Jew Wounded, Arab Killed in Attack Near Hevron
(IsraelNN.com) A shooting first reported as the result of an argument was actually a terrorist attack, according to a Magen David Adom paramedic who treated a victim at the scene.
Zaki Yahav, the MDA paramedic who treated the Israeli wounded in the attack, told Arutz-7 shortly after the incident that the Israeli and a PA Arab friend were negotiating over the sale of his car when the attack occurred.
"[He] told us that he had come to sell his car at the Idna Junction, about 100 meters from the IDF position in the area," he said, adding that the victim met with his friend, who came to buy the car, at the junction.
"A short time later, a white Subaru Leone car drove by and two people who were inside it opened fire on the man and his [PA Arab] friend," said Yahav. "The man said that his [PA Arab] friend fell apparently after being hit [by a bullet] in the head."
The Bethlehem-based Ma'an news agency reported late Wednesday night that the Al Aksa Martyrs Brigades, a terrorist gang that owes its allegiance to Palestinian Authority Chairman and Fatah leader Mahmoud Abbas, had taken responsibility for the attack.
A spokesman for the terrorist gang said that operatives tried to abduct the Israeli victim, but that the IDF prevented the kidnapping. He added that the shooting was in retaliation for recent IDF military activities in Gaza. More than 100 terrorists were killed by IDF soldiers in the course of the recent fighting in Gaza.
The official IDF version of the incident in Idna is different. An army source said earlier in the evening that the Israeli entered the village of Idna and was shot during an argument with one of the local residents. The source said, however, that the IDF was still checking the facts.
The 30-year-old Israeli, whose name was not released, managed to get back into his car and fled to the nearby military checkpoint at Tarkumia in the South Hevron Hills. He was evacuated by IDF helicopter to Hadassah Ein Karem hospital, and his wounds are classified as moderate. His PA Arab friend, Muhammed Nofal, died of his wounds.
