Civil Administration to Demolish Expellees Homes
(IsraelNN.com) The Civil Administration has issued demolition orders for seven homes built for Jewish families expelled from Gaza in 2005, according to Haaretz. The homes are located in the town of Maskiot in the Jordan Valley, and are meant for former residents of Shirat HaYam. Former Defense Minister Amir Peretz approved the construction, but later withdrew his approval, leading to the demolition orders.
Another plan to grant housing to Gaza expellees three years after they were taken from their homes faced harsh opposition from the left-wing Meretz party on Monday. MK Avshalom Vilan (Meretz) accused Defense Minister Ehud Barak of "a shameful surrender to the far right" following Barak's decision to allow five Jewish families from the former town of Morag to live in caravans in the town of Teneh Omarim near Hevron.
