After Hillary, BENEDIKT! Whoever touches Jerusalem loses the use of his right hand. The pope is plotting against Am Yisrael in Eretz Yisrael non-stop!

VATICAN CITY — Hospital officials and the Vatican say Pope Benedict XVI broke his right wrist in a fall during his vacation in the Alps.

Tiziano Trevisan, a spokesman at the Umberto Parini hospital in Aosta, told The Associated Press, "The pope will be held for a few hours as the doctors treat his fracture. He will then stay for observation."

Trevisan said doctors had taken an X-ray of the pope's right wrist and found a small fracture. The pope is 82 and has been healthy during his five-year pontificate.

Vatican spokesman the Rev. Federico Lombardi said earlier that Benedict "slipped and got hurt" but "it doesn't seem to be serious."

Lombardi said the pope went to the hospital in Aosta for an examination after the accident.

"The most upsetting thing for him is not being able to write, something that he had planned to do frequently during these days," Lombardi said.

AOSTA, Italy — Pope Benedict XVI celebrated mass Saturday with his broken wrist in plaster but bemoaned an inability to clasp his hands together in prayer, his closest officials said.

"He is learning to live with a right wrist in plaster," Federico Lombardi told AFP, the day after the pope was hospitalised after a fall while on holiday. "The most difficult thing for him is having to give up writing."

He had slipped and fallen in his bedroom during the night, a Vatican statement said.

DS: The first report stated he slipped in his bathroom. That is humiliating enough. Then THE VATICAN doctored the version to say he fell in his bedroom; a little bit more dignified....

AP: "... the pontiff had to take off his ring — the large gold Fisherman's ring that signifies his papal authority. The pontiff usually wears it on his right ring finger; as he left the hospital, the ring was visible on his left ring finger.

The ring which features the figure of St. Peter casting his net from a fisherman's boat, is traditionally kissed by the faithful when they meet the pontiff in a sign of respect.
