Re: Shas. Please read below. At the end is a sample letter to Rav Ovadiah, which could be ( modified and) mass distributed, signed, made into posters, etc.,.,

B"H

Hello everybody,

If you have been following the Shas debate on this blog and other places too, you will have witnessed quite a heated exchange, The reason is, on one hand, we see so clearly that Shas holds the key to this evil government falling down; and yet, there is such evidence of corruption on the part of that party's leaders, that it appears as though no amount of pressure on the part of Am Yisrael will make them budge.

Just as an example, see the e-mail exchange I just had this morning with Barry, and his response.

DS said:

Barry, as you can see, I forwarded your stuff, together with Shas's recent about-face.

For the time being, all they are doing is THREATENING to leave; but they are still sitting pretty. The question bears asking, though - and that is something that YOU have failed to do - is:

Couldn't it be that they have cleaned up their act in 10 years? Granted, Rav Ovadiah is still there, a "good friend of Peres'" as ever. Still, Eli Yishai is not Aryeh Deri, he is a much more honest and humble man, and cares about the poor. Can't he do ANYTHING without Rav Ovadiah's orders?

Barry replied:

Every time Shas makes a threat, the American CFR Ambassadors show up at the Rav's home and threaten to open the murder case on Deri and his Shas cronies. Nothing will EVER change.

As a matter of fact, Rice is showing up next week; most likely she'll want to meet with Eli Yishai. Maybe that is also one of the reasons he is stalling , not doing a thing.

Read below his other excuses  for stalling.

( Also noteworthy is MAYOR OF JERUSALEM URI LUPOLIANSKI, who should be raising heaven and hell while Livni is negotiating the fate of HIS city, yet is not uttering a word. What on earth is going on there???

Attias says Shas believes 'Post' report

Gil hoffman and JPost.com staff , THE JERUSALEM POST Feb. 12, 2008

Communication Minister Ariel Attias, the number two man in Shas, said Tuesday morning that he believes the Jerusalem Post report which claimed that secret talks had been taking place between the Israeli and Palestinian negotiating teams on the issue of Jerusalem. Shas Chairman Eli Yishai had said that if the Post story was true the party would leave the government.

"We get the impression that Jerusalem is being discussed," Attias said. "The foreign minister doesn't deny it. [Prime Minister Ehud Olmert] has to decide whether he wants Shas in the government or whether he wants what [Foreign Minister Tzipi] Livni is doing."

In Tuesday's Maariv a Shas official claimed that Livni was holding the covert talks with the Palestinians behind the prime minister's back in order to force Shas to quit the coalition and bring down the government. "Tzipi Livni is creating upheaval [around] Olmert and pushing Shas out [of the coalition], the source said.

Yishai will meet Olmert when the prime minister returns from Germany and will try to find out whether Livni "is the conductor and is acting on her own volition or whether she is being directed from above", Attias told Army Radio. "We cannot disregard what is happening. We cannot bury our heads in the sand."

On Monday, Yishai indicated that his party's days in the government were numbered, due to the Post's story.

Yishai told reporters who attended his faction's weekly meeting that he would speak about the story in Sunday's paper with Olmert and Livni.

He had not spoken to either one by press time and the Olmert associates he did reach downplayed the report.

"I will check the story and if it's true, Shas will leave the government," Yishai told the Post.

Yishai also issued a new threat that any diplomatic progress on any issue while Kassams fall on Sderot could lead to the party's departure from the coalition. Yishai escalated his warning beyond previous threats, which focused solely on Jerusalem.

But Yishai's threat to leave over the Post story was seen as more serious, because it applied to negotiations that have already taken place, while the new threat deals with potential future talks.

Yishai wrote a letter to Cabinet Secretary Ovad Yehezkel requesting that all decisions about what Israel should negotiate be made in the forum of seven ministers that met regularly during the Second Lebanon War. He postponed a visit to Jerusalem's controversial Har Homa neighborhood until Thursday, when he will be joined by MKs from the right wing National Union-National Religious Party.

Sources in Shas said the Post story added to what they said was already tremendous pressure on the party to leave the coalition sooner rather than later. A Shas MK complained privately that he felt increasingly uncomfortable with the party remaining in a government that was conducting negotiations that he believed would leave Israel "naked" without key strategic assets.

An official close to Olmert expressed confidence that Shas would remain in the coalition. The official vowed to do everything possible to keep the party satisfied.

"If Shas wants to have an influence and prevent moves it opposes, it needs to remain in the government," the official said. "Leaving would have no value, because Shas cannot accomplish anything in the opposition."

Opposition leader Binyamin Netanyahu on Monday criticized Yishai for questioning the report's veracity. He called on Shas to leave the coalition due to the report and the security situation.

"Olmert's government is acting with weakness and confusion," Netanyahu said. "It's allowing rockets to fall on Sderot while they engage in negotiations that will result in more rockets falling in Jerusalem and the center of the country. I call on our friends in Shas: You share our opinions, our concern for Jerusalem, our concerns for security - I call on you to do the right thing. And the right thing is to stop these dangerous moves and quit the government."

Israel Beiteinu leader Avigdor Lieberman and United Torah Judaism chairman Ya'acov Litzman mocked Yishai, saying that he would leave the coalition after Kadima. Yishai responded that their criticism did not matter to him.

Transportation Minister Shaul Mofaz, who is Olmert's most serious foe on the Right within Kadima, is waiting for developments in Shas before making a decision about whether to use the talks on Jerusalem to attack Olmert.

Jerusalem mayor Uri Lupoliansky declined to comment on the negotiations about the city's fate. His spokesman said he would not comment unless Livni verified the report.

CONTINUATION OF MY LETTER TO YOU.

So, at any rate, even though INFLUENCING SHAS seems hopeless, due to its extreme corruption and past misdeeds, which render it so susceptible to blackmail by RICE, CFR and company, I am wondering if, maybe, a heartfelt, public letter addressed to Rav Ovadiah, and posted all over Jerusalem. could possibly have an effect.

As I had said earlier, a group of wonderful women wrote such a letter to Rav Eliashiv, Rav Ovadiah and the Gerrer Rebbe re: the gay parade a year or two ago, and it did have quite a powerful effect, got them to finally ACT!!. So I thought we could do the same here.

This is what Rav Dov Stein, of the Sanhedrin , has to say about the idea ( we were both part of the process too) :

There is a difference when I am acting as a private man or as the secretariat of the Sanhedrin

I am not a private man. I need a decision of the Sanhedrin about.

Meanwhile the group of women can do the same as it was done before a year

Dov

( by the way, Rabbi Stein, so WHY DON"T YOU get a decision from the Sanhedrin? What are they waiting for? What is more important to them? The sex of angels?? Or is is that Rav Steinsaltz,-  and possibly others -  is so totally enmeshed in the Vatican and the World Bank that he can't make a move???

I don't quite remember what the procedure was, we would have to enlist the help of the same group of women. But meanwhile, here is a sample of a letter I thought we could write to RAV OVADIAH PUBLICLY

SAMPLE LETTER TO RAV OVADIAH YOSEF

B"H,

Dear Rav Ovadiah,

Thank God you have reached the ripe old age of 88 years. What a great blessing God has given you, and we wish you Ad Meah Ve-esrim Shana.

Nevertheless, as man gets older and closer to the grave, he has to start to worry about what will happen to him once he reaches the next world.

And you, as a great Talmid Chacham, know , more than any of us, that the GREAT JUDGE is waiting to review every man's deeds.

And specially, the deeds of a leader of the Jewish People, which you have been put in a position to be.

Now it is clear that sometimes, due to some past regrettable actions by a leader or by his followers, - after all , no man, not even Moshe Rabbeinu, is perfect -   very powerful people,  who know this damaging information, WILL USE THE INFORMATION  AS A WEAPON against the said leaders , getting them to act in ways which they would normally not act. ALL BECAUSE OF FEAR OR MAN, which is quite natural.

Dear Rav Ovadiah, fear of man is very great. But FEAR OF GOD SHOULD BE SO MUCH GREATER! What answer will you give Hakodush Boruch-Hu if, Chas vechalilah, thousands of Jew die because of your fear or man? Or if Am Yisrael loses Jerusalem because of your fear of man?

Wouldn't it be better to just FACE YOUR FEAR, ACCEPT WHATEVER PUNISHMENT IS SUPPOSED TO BE METED OUT TO WHOMEVER, and then you will be able TO FACE YOUR CREATOR WITH A CLEAN CONSCIENCE, when the day comes, Ad Meah Veesrim?

Will you sacrifice the many for the few? Will you sacrifice Am Yisrael for yourself and your Shas friends?

With blessings
