OU's Position On 'Interfering' With Establishment of PA Terror State

Shalom Rabbi Weinreb,

As an avowed Zionist activist, whose two sons recently made aliyah, (hopefully my husband and I will follow them in the near future) I am astounded by the 'hands off' approach of the OU leadership as to the dangers which Israel undeniably faces from the establishment of a PA (terror) State. As the daughter of a Rabbi who belonged to the OU, and the granddaughter of Rabbi Modecai Zev Dzikansky, Rosh Yeshiva for MTJ before Rabbi Moshe Feinstein, I think I am in a qualified position to question the OU leadership on life and death matters relating to our Jewish homeland.

While it is true that in a normal situation the democratic 'process' would work itself out, it is abundantly clear that the democratic process in Israel is severely broken - all their protestations to the contrary. The biggest evidence of their dangerouly broken condition was the total refusal of the Sharon government to abide by its own initiated referendum. Simply put, that if a majority of the Likud opposed destroying Gush Katif he would accede to their mandate. We all know how that turned out. To add insult to grievously (undemocratic) injury, PM Sharon campaigned on a platform against Avram Mitznah that he would NEVER destroy Gush Katif, as Mitznah declared he would. And on and on...

In this regard, it would be a catastrophe of historic Jewish proportions if the OU leadership (which has enough clout to vociferously lobby Congress and others of national import), would allow itself to go down in history as the Jewish leadership of this generation who sat back while our homeland was destroyed for a third ! time. Stephen Wise and his colleagues (despite the PC streets named after him) are vilified for their 'sha shtill' attitude while Jews in Europe were burning.

It would behoove Rabbi Weinreb and his fellow leaders to proclaim forthwith what their plans of action are, for the eyes of world Jewry will be watching and waiting. Jewish history will not be forgiving.

Sincerely,

Adina Kutnicki
