ASHAMED OF THE SILENT ISRAELIS?

by Emanuel A. Winston, a Middle East Analyst & Commentator As Kassam Rockets fall on Sderot and other towns near Gaza, most of the Israeli public seems simply indifferent. As people are being killed and maimed, as children and adults live their days terrified, the great part of Israel simply seems to adopt a "Ho Hum" attitude. Since they do not yet feel the pain of seeing their children go to bed terrified, or forced to sleep in a "safe room" (which 800 homes do not even have), the rest of Israel seems to refuse to share their pain.

We incessantly hear the likes of PM Ehud Olmert, FM Tzippi Livni, DM Ehud Barak make speeches about how they will "soon" make the Terrorists pay a price - but, they never act on their solemn vows. We always hear the psycho-babble from these leaders, speaking about how Israel is "obligated" to avoid a humanitarian crisis by striking Terrorists who launch their rockets from civilian areas and the Muslim Arab civilians who delight in observing these launchings.

Why hasn't the entire nation of Israel marched to Jerusalem and simply carried the Olmert government out of office? Why are only the Sderot families and their supporters the only ones blocking the roads to call attention to their pain?

I personally believe that those in Tel Aviv and Haifa who shut their eyes to what is happening in the South will soon themselves be hit by Rockets and suicide bombers - again. Perhaps, then they will start shrieking for the government to release the IDF (Israel Defense Forces) to do their work of stopping the Terrorists' Rocket and Missile strikes.

But, it will be too late.

As they had no pity for the families of Sderot, so too will there be no pity for them. Only when their children are blown apart (G-d forbid), will those selfish adults stop sipping coffee on Dizengoff and try to change a perfidious government, which is only dedicated to enlarging their profits and appeasement of the enemy.

Through their selfish inaction, they have brought the curse of pain and death upon themselves. Hopefully soon, a Peoples' Court will rise up to judge this government which is engaged in national suicide. Perhaps the judgements passed will be like the Judgements at Nuremberg and the perpetrators will be sentenced accordingly for crimes against the Jewish people and crimes against humanity.

The selfish majority of Israelis who refuse to feel the pain of their extended family in the South will hopefully come to recognize the error of their ways as their own lives are threatened. Can't these selfish people internalize the pain that they should feel for two boys in Sderot who had their legs crushed by a Hamas Rocket Saturday night February 9^th? The eight year old, Osher Twito, had one leg amputated below his knee already and is kept in a chemically-induced coma while the doctors are trying to save his second leg. The 15 year old Rami, is also undergoing many operations to save his legs. Have the "selfish" majority of Israelis who remain silent not felt this pain?

These "selfish" people are aided in lack of caring by the Leftist Media who barely mentions the daily bombardment of Sderot.

More than 7000 Rocket have been launched against Israel from the Hamas Muslim Arab Terrorist organization in Gaza since the Olmert government forcibly evacuated 10,000 men, women and children from Gush Katif/Gaza. Thirteen Israeli men, women and children have been murdered. Hundreds more injured, thousands terrified. Most do not have the financial wherewithal to move themselves out of harms' way.

This government expected this horrendous bombardment. It may not have been well publicized in the Leftist Media but, before the Gush Katif evacuation the Israeli Knesset passed legislation declaring the 44 communities surrounding the Gaza Strip would be considered at risk of attack by hostile Muslim Arab forces, both Terrorists and the Armies of the Hamas and Fatah forces. Before that evacuation in August 2005, "only" 21 communities within the Gaza Strip, that is the Gush Katif communities were considered "at risk" by the Knesset and were suffering bombing, sniper shooting, suicide bombings, bus bombings, etc.

Now a large majority of these evacuees are still living in temporary housing, trailer homes, euphemistically called "cara-villas". Today in America, the news revealed that those living in trailer homes after the Rita and Katrina hurricanes devastated New Orleans and the wide surrounding areas, those 100,000 families were being exposed to dangerous levels of formaldehyde - which is carcinogenic. Has anyone tested the chemical levels in those plastic trashy boxes the brave, pioneering Gush Katif evacuees have been forced into? I am sure not.

The Leftist Media, by remaining virtually silent, protects the Olmert government from being dissolved, despite Olmert's deliberate failure to use the IDF (Israel Defense Forces) to protect the people that he and his government, knowingly, put at risk.

The people of Israel  didn't even stand up for their own safety when the Winograd Report showed that PM Ehud Olmert was at fault for the failure to defeat Hezb'Allah - a few thousand man Terrorist army who launched 4,000 Katyusha Missiles mostly made in Russia (received through Iran and Syria) in the Lebanon/Hebz'Allah War of 34 days July-August 2006. Now Hezb'Allah has re-stocked and has at least 20,000 Katyusha Missiles with a longer range and accuracy.

When Hezb'Allah once again starts launching Katyusha Missiles from Lebanon, at Haifa and Safed, maybe, only then will the selfish Israelis, who didn't care about anyone but themselves, begin whining for help.

As for a government that allows her citizens to be murdered and maimed with impunity, that government  has blood on their hands no less than the convicted and jailed Terrorists the Olmert government has and is continuing to release even when they vow to kill again.

Regrettably, Israel's Leftist Courts do NOT practice Justice.
