Israel to Increase Stock of Swine Flu Vaccine

IsraelNN.com) Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu gave orders on Wednesday to purchase more swine flu vaccines amidst growing concerns over the virus' continue growth. Following a meeting between Netanyahu and the Health Ministry's swine flu team, the decision was made to begin purchasing sufficient quantities to cover every Israeli citizen. At the meeting it was also decided to increase stocks of swine flu treatment medications by 5 percent to bring Israel's coverage up to 30 percent of the population.

The cost of purchasing additional drug vaccines is estimated at NIS 450 million. The Prime Minister ordered his office to coordinate with the Treasury and the Ministry of Health to find funding sources and present findings at the next cabinet meeting.

But one good thing is, Litzman is a religious Jew. There is hope that by explaining to him the situation, he will come to his senses and will make sure that only SAFE measures are taken in Israel.

Pregnant woman infected with swine flu in serious condition

A 38-year-old resident of East Jerusalem was being kept alive by a ventilation machine Wednesday night after being hospitalized in serious condition with swine flu. The woman, 30 weeks pregnant, was being treated at Hadassah University Hospital, Ein Karem.

Doctors were administering tests late Wednesday night and deliberating whether or not to deliver the fetus by cesarean section.

According to the study conducted by the U.S. Center for Disease Control (CDC), pregnant women infected with swine flu have a much higher risk of severe illness and death.

Pregnant women account for six percent of U.S. swine flu deaths since the pandemic began in April, even though they make up only one percent of the U.S. population.

The pregnant woman was hospitalized days after the Health Ministry confirmed Israel's first swine flu fatality. Shimon Azran, a 35-year-old Eilat resident, died of pneumonia after contracting the H1N1 virus.

The Health Ministry warned on Wednesday that it expected 700,000 Israelis to contract the virus. So far, 1,500 cases have been confirmed in Israel, but testing was halted a week and a half ago. The Ministry believes that thousands of Israelis have become ill since.

Netanyahu orders swine flu vaccines for every Israeli citizen

Earlier Wednesday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued an order for the purchase of enough swine flu vaccines to inoculate every Israeli citizen, following a meeting with a special Health Ministry task force.

In addition, Deputy Health Minister Ya'akov Litzman came to an agreement with Netanyahu to increase the nation's flu medication reserves by five percent, so that the amount will be sufficient to treat 30 percent of the population rather than just a quarter.

The cost of the vaccine purchase together with the increase in medication supplies will be around NIS 450 million. The prime minister asked his office director to coordinate the expenditure with the treasury and the Health Ministry in order to bring the issue before the cabinet for a vote as soon as possible.

A vaccine for the relatively new strain of flu, known as H1N1, has not yet been developed, but dozens of pharmaceutical companies around the world are currently working tirelessly toward a vaccine. Experts predict that a finished vaccine should be available for purchase within about two months.

European nations have been quick to order the potential vaccine, but in Israel the issue has been delayed until now.

Israel's center for disease control has said that 700 Israelis contract swine flu every week. The Health Ministry's data has seen an increase in the number of Israelis sick with the virus, especially in Jerusalem and in Israel's central region.

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu has ordered the purchase of a swine-flu vaccine for all seven-plus million citizens of Israel. The estimated cost: NIS 450 million.

The vaccination is still in its developmental stage, and is expected to be delivered to Israel in a matter of months.

Netanyahu announced the decision after meeting with Deputy Health Minister Yaakov Litzman, who actually objected to it. Litzman, who heads the Ministry (there is no Health Minister) told Army Radio this morning that there is no need for the vaccination. He also said that by the time the vaccination is ready, the winter and its swine-flu dangers will have passed.

Swine flu, also known as the H1N1 virus, has been proliferating throughout Israel at an alarming rate of late; the first Israeli death as a result of the flu was recorded just a few days ago, when Shimon Azran (35) of Eilat died of pneumonia after contracting H1N1. In addition, three people are hospitalized with the illness, including two babies in serious condition.

On Tuesday night, 400 Israeli Scout campers from Ganei Tikva were sent home from their summer experience in Ofer Forest in the Carmel area, near Haifa, after 68 of them reported feeling ill. Only five of them were ultimately diagnosed with swine-flu; none of them required hospitalization.

Over a million Americans have contracted H1N1; 300 have died, or less than 0.03%.

Netanyahu instructed his Bureau Director to coordinate finding funding sources for the vaccination with the Finance Minister and with the Deputy Health Minister. He asked that a proposal be presented at the next Cabinet meeting.

"This decision places Israel in the front line with leading countries in terms of future stocks of vaccinations against the virus," Netanyahu's office stated.

It was also decided to increase the stock of medicines against H1N1 by 5%, even though the current levels are already more than the average European nation has.

Israel Approves Money, Cement Transfers to Gaza

(IsraelNN.com) The Israeli government approved NIS 104 million monthly transfers into Gaza with NIS 50 million earmarked for Palestinian Authority government workers, according to a Ynet report late on Wednesday. For the first time since Operation Cast Lead, cement shipments into Gaza will also be resumed.

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Ehud Barak approved the cement shipments which amount to more than 310 tons. The cement will be used to upgrade a flour mill, a wastewater purification plant, and the British cemetery.

(Israelnationalnews.com) The Temple Institute will begin building the sacrificial altar on Thursday, Tisha B’av, a fast day when Jews mourn the destruction of the Temple some 2,000 years ago.


The sacrificial altar was located in the center of the Temple, and upon it the Kohanim (priests) offered the numerous voluntary and obligatory sacrifices commanded in the Bible.

The Temple Institute, which has already built many of the vessels for the Holy Temple, such as the ark and the menorah, has now embarked on a project to build the altar. Construction begins Thursday in Mitzpe Yericho (east of Jerusalem) at 5:30 p.m.%ad%

“Unfortunately, we cannot currently build the altar in its proper place, on the Temple Mount,” Temple Institute director Yehudah Glick said. “We are building an altar of the minimum possible size so that we will be able to transport it to the Temple when it is rebuilt."

Even a minimum size altar will work out to be approximately 4 meters tall, 6 meters long, and 6 meters wide. Workers have collected around 10 cubic meters of rocks weighing several tons already.

The rocks were gathered from the Dead Sea area and wrapped individually to assure they remain whole and are not touched by metal, as the Bible requires.

“The Torah says that no iron tools should be used on the altar’s stones,” Glick explained. “The altar represents a connection to life and to the creation of the world. Iron is the opposite – it is used to build tools of war, death, and destruction.”

The stones will be cemented together with a mixture of sand, clay, tar, and asphalt. Researchers from the Temple Institute visited the Finish glass factory near Yerucham to learn how to create a mixture which would remain as cool as possible under the altar’s unremitting fires and protect the Kohanim, who always worked in the Temple barefoot.

Glick said that Tisha B’av, a day associated with mourning, is really the ideal time to begin to build the Temple. “People mistakenly think Tisha B’av is only a day to cry,” he explained. “It also has to be a day of action. We have the ability in our era to begin the construction of the Temple."

“There are many positive developments recently with regard to the Temple,” Glick added. “Hundreds of Jews visited the Temple Mount this week, and more and more continue to come, after undergoing the requisite ritual immersion.”

Swine flu striking pregnant women hard: CDC study

CHICAGO (Reuters) - Pregnant women infected with the new H1N1 swine flu have a much higher risk of severe illness and death, U.S. government researchers said on Wednesday, confirming a trend that has worried global health experts.

While pregnant woman have always had a higher risk of severe disease from influenza in general, the new H1N1 virus is taking an exceptionally heavy toll, the researchers said.

"We do see a fourfold increase in hospitalization rates among ill pregnant women compared to the general population," Dr. Denise Jamieson of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said in a telephone interview.

"We're also seeing a relatively large proportion of deaths among pregnant women. We report 13 percent in the paper, but that is a very unstable number based on a small number of deaths reported," said Jamieson, whose study appears in the journal Lancet.

The study was based on the deaths of six pregnant women out of 45 deaths related to H1N1 reported to the CDC between April 15 and June 16.

All of the women were healthy prior to infection, and all developed pneumonia and needed to be put on a ventilator.

Jamieson said 302 deaths have been officially reported to the CDC from the new H1N1 virus.

"Among those, we have relatively complete information on 266 deaths. And of those, 15 have been among pregnant women, which is about 6 percent," Jamieson said.

Given that at any point, about 1 percent of the U.S. population is pregnant, she said, pregnant women "are definitely over-represented in terms of the proportion of deaths."

She said pregnant women do not need to change the way they live because of the new H1N1 flu.

"There is no reason to delay pregnancy or to be overly concerned. We do not have evidence that pregnant women have increased susceptibility or are more likely to acquire influenza," Jamieson said.

"It's just that when they have influenza they are at increased risk of having severe disease," she said.

Jamieson said pregnant women who suspect they have influenza should call their doctors promptly.

And she said doctors need to provide a separate waiting area for pregnant women who suspect they are ill, to protect healthy pregnant women from infection.

Jamieson said pregnant women with influenza should be given antiviral drugs as soon as possible, within the first 48 hours to be most effective.

Despite recommendations from the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists that all pregnant women get a seasonal flu shot, less than 14 percent do, according to the CDC.

The ACIP, which advises the CDC, is meeting later on Wednesday to decide who should be first to get the new H1N1 vaccine.

Dr. Jennifer Ashton is very photogenic, but not necessary well read. She is giving the official line that most doctors have probably been given at medical conferences; but how many doctors REALLY KNOW ALL the ingredients going into a vaccine, including INERT MATERIALS? I can tell you from experience that VERY FEW DOCTORS GET INVOLVED WITH THESE SEEMINGLY MINOR DETAILS, which in this case can mean the difference between life and death.

As an example, an allergist I was dealing with had NO IDEA about the inert components of injectable allergens he was routinely injecting into patients! It takes special scrutiny, special research, to obtain all this information.

How can Dr. Ashton confidently say that taking this vaccine is SAFER THAN GETTING THE DISEASE, when the vaccines haven't even been manufactured yet, and no human studies have been made on them?

Obviously she is basing herself on ROUTINE INFLUENZA VACCINE, for which we do have quite a bit of data.

But this H1N1 VACCINE IS A WHOLE DIFFERENT BALLGAME! BEWARE.

Terror Victim’s Brother’s Protest: Won’t Testify in Murderer’s Trial

(Israelnationalnews.com) Adam Nativ, whose younger brother Shlomo was axed to death by a Palestinian terrorist in Gush Etzion earlier this year, refuses to testify at the murderer’s trial.

Adam, in his late 20’s, took part in the chase after the murderer, who managed to escape; security forces apprehended him over three weeks later.

The axe-wielding terrorist ran into a playground, murdered 16-year-old Shlomo Nativ, and then severely wounded 8-year-old Yair Gamliel – whose father Ofer is serving a 15-year prison sentence for having planned a vengeance attack against an Arab target.

Adam, older brother of Shlomo, was called upon to testify in the trial against the terrorist – but has refused. In a sharp letter to the IDF Military Prosecution, he explained that this is his protest against the manner in which the case is being handled – and against the continued incarceration of Ofer Gamliel.

After his refusal to testify, Adam was informed that the defense, as well, will not call witnesses, and the trial will take place without witnesses.

Adam’s letter to the Prosecution states:

I am Adam Nativ, brother of Shlomo, may G-d avenge his blood. We were a cohesive and happy family until that black and bitter day when a cruel murderer infiltrated our town and murdered my brother in cold blood and smashed the skull of 8-year-old Yair Gamliel near our home. Our lives since then have not returned to normal.

I was summoned to testify today in the trial of the wretched murderer, because of my participation in the chase after him – when I still did not know that Shlomo was bleeding to death and Yair was fighting for his life. After such a cruel murder, and the ease with which it was perpetrated in broad daylight in the middle of our town, I had hoped that the State would seek full justice against its enemies and those who murder its sons, in order to punish and deter all other potential murderers.

However, in my previous discussions with you, I was made to understand that this is not your intention.

How can I come and take part in this trial when the appropriate punishment according to law is the death sentence, yet you do not intend to demand this punishment?

How can I come and take part in this trial when I know that even his house stands untouched, with life continuing there as usual, and you have no intention of razing it?

How can I come and take part in this trial when it is likely that he will receive a prison sentence with conditions enabling him to live as a hero, to complete his education, and receive canteen money?

How can I come and take part in this trial when we know that gestures and deals are made, and therefore the chances are that this murderer will be released from prison even before the release of Yair Gamliel’s father, who received the absolute maximum sentence for his thoughts?

As a victim and member of our family, for whom standing before the murderer during the trial is difficult in any event, I am not willing to take part in this fake show, in which you are fail to fulfill your rights and obligations. Your position is essentially a form of absolution of the murderer’s guilt and contributes towards the encouragement of additional murders of this type, and shakes my trust in the law enforcement system and its objective.

My brother’s blood is crying out to us from the earth!
