U.S. President Barack Obama is turning to the Pope to back his vision of a new Arab state on all of Judea and Samaria and eastern Jerusalem. The president told the Catholic Italian newspaper Avvenire, one week before a scheduled meeting with the Pope in Italy, "It [the Middle East] is a subject I am keen to discuss with the pope. I think he will share my approach."
President Obama has dug in his heels in insisting that Israel stop all building for Jews in Judea and Samaria, and the State Department has indicated that the ban should include all of Jerusalem that was restored to Israel in the Six-Day War in 1967.
However, the president maintained that the United States should not impose on Israel and the Palestinian Authority a solution to the differences between them. "What the United States can do, without imposing a solution, is to hold a mirror up to both of the parties to show them the consequences of their actions," he told the newspaper.
"On one hand, it is not just Israel's fault," President Obama added, pointing out that the Arab world needs to understand that "the Jewish state has security needs like any country." His use of the term "Jewish state" and not "Israel" may have been a hint that the PA must accept Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu's demand for the same recognition.
Meanwhile, leaders of the Council of Jewish Communities in Judea and Samaria have demanded that Prime Minister Netanyahu meet with them immediately over the issue of construction for Judea and Samaria, where they said "not even one construction plan has been approved in Judea and Samaria in several months."
Council chairman Danny Dayan pointed out in a letter to the Prime Minister, "The government under your leadership embarked on its term in office with the declared intention of returning Jewish settlement to a path of development."
Dayan wants the meeting before Defense Minister Ehud Barak flies to London to talk with U.S. Middle East envoy George Mitchell on Monday for the second time in a week.
The Obama administration is asking Arab governments if they would agree to ease sanctions against Israel in return for a freeze on Jewish building in Judea and Samaria, according to Reuters. The Arab world so far has expressed no interest in taking up President Obama on his proposal in his speech in Cairo last June, when he urged Arab countries to allow Israel's El Al Airlines to fly over their skies.
Another idea to tempt Israel into freezing all building is to convince Arab governments to abandon their policy of blocking Israeli-registered cellular phones on Arab networks.
However, President Obama faces stiff opposition from Arabs to make any concessions before Israel completely surrenders all of Judea and Samaria. "The Arabs ... are saying they don't want to pay for something twice," according to an unnamed diplomat quoted by Reuters. "It would be hard for them to give up something when building work was still continuing on existing settlement projects."
It is not exactly my forte to write a Dvar Torah, but I have been thinking of some strange coincidences lately, and you probably do know by now my interest in numerology and the Hebrew letters. So please let me share with you the following. Let me stress that these are just my thoughts, and do not necessarily represent the truth - although they just might!
This week's Torah portion in Israel will be PARSHAT BALAK.
In brief, it discusses how the king of Moab, Balak, became FRIGHTENED because ISRAEL WAS VERY NUMEROUS ( rings a bell? NO POPULATION GROWTH WANTED ANY MORE IN YESHA!) , and Moab feared being overpowered by Israel. So Balak devised a scheme to hire a "prophet" who was also a sorcerer, Balaam, who would CURSE ISRAEL and use SORCERY in order to vanquish Israel . When that scheme failed, Balaam advised Balak to DEBAUCH the people of Israel, knowing that this was the ONLY way to vanquish Am Yisrael.
Sure enough, THAT scheme worked; with the help of their Midianite ( Saudi) allies, Moab enticed Israel to follow the ANAL GOD BAAL PEOR. IN DEFIANCE OF Moshe ( the rabbis) Zimri and Cozbi held a brazen, rebellious, debauched 'PRIDE PARADE' in front of the TENT OF MEETING ( the Temple of those days) .. As a result, 24,000 Israelites died in a plague , until Pinhas came along and put an end to the debauchery by slaying the leaders of the debauchery movement.
This story, as does every Torah portion, has a very contemporary feel to it, and is totally relevant to what we are going through right now in Israel.

As the summer begins, White House watchers have spotted a new look by President Obama: The Evil Eye!
Staffers have joked about the menacing glance, which comes when the president meets with world leaders who are not aligned with his progressive view.
White House photographers have captured the "evil eye" in recent weeks, during sessions with German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Colombia's Alvaro Uribev.

G-8's Religious Leaders Look at Underlying "Power"
Parallel Summit Considers Different Dimension of Same Problems
ROME, JUNE 16, 2009 (Zenit.org).- Leading up to the Group of Eight meeting next month in Italy, religious leaders from the eight nations have started their own summit to consider religious dimensions of the same problems to be considered by the G-8.
The July 8-10 G-8 meeting will be held in L'Aquila, Italy. The religious leaders started their own fourth conference today in Rome; it is becoming customary to hold a parallel religious summit to the G-8 meeting.
The more than 80 religious leaders aim to produce a summary document and proposals to present to the host country and the political assembly.
The president of the Italian episcopal conference's ecumenism and interreligious dialogue committee spoke at the presentation of the meeting in the offices of Vatican Radio.
Bishop Vincenzo Paglia explained that "the religious dimension is essential for development, coexistence and for peace among populations."
The two-day summit will take up some of the G-8's main issues for 2009, including the availability of water, the right to food, health, education, peace and security. They will dedicate special attention to Africa and to the situation of the global economy.
"Religious 'power,'" Bishop Paglia said, "is not an exterior 'power,' but rather totally interior because it is based in hearts, in those spiritual forces that lie behind history, but without it, the other powers run the risk of being founded on sand."
The religious summit began with a visit to L'Aquila, which was affected by an earthquake last April. The participants were to be received today by Italian President Giorgio Napolitano.
His Beatitude Abuna Paulos, patriarch of the Orthodox Church of Ethiopia, was to inaugurate the event. Other participants include Cardinal Jean-Louis Tauran, president of the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue; Andrea Riccardi, founder of the Sant'Egidio Community; His Beatitude Aram I, catholicos of Cilicia of the Armenians; the former chief rabbi of the Israeli defense forces, Mordechai Piron; the grand mufti of Sarajevo, Mustafa Ceric; and the president of the Japanese lay Buddhist movement Risshō Kōsei Kai, Nichiko Niwano.

It was right before Shabbat, and I was in a great rush, so what I wrote that in sort of a disorganized way. However, the content is important. So please, go back to that e-mail, and see what I wrote about the anniversaries of the Vatican, the pope, and the 80,000 security officers enlisted for the OPERATION WHITE CLOAK.
During Shabbat, I had time to speak to some very well-informed people, and also to do some important reading on my own. And my conclusion is that , unfortunately, I was, at least partially , right.

First let me give you CRITICAL INFORMATION I received, from somebody very well informed in Hevron, where I visited Shabbat, and where I shared my concerns with people in the know; that information confirmed what I had suspected:
I was told that,indeed, the army has warned about serious security threats to the Hevron ( Kiryat Arba ) Jews during the pope's visit, if Tsir Tsion is opened this week; they are aware of it.

The committee is headed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and includes Defense Minister Ehud Barak, Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman, Finance Minister Yuval Steinitz and Regional Development Minister Silvan Shalom. Yishai's move was reportedly prompted by his fear that in its current lineup, the committee may be inclined to grant an ease of restrictions he fears may endanger Jewish lives in the West Bank. Sunday saw the committee decide to allow the Zion Route – leading from Kiryat Arba to the Cave of Patriarchs in Hebron – to be open to Palestinian travel. It has come to my attention that the opening of the Zion Route for Arab travel was brought before the political echelon by the defense establishment," said Yishai in a letter to Barak. "Knowing the importance of the route to the Jewish community which frequents the Cave of Patriarchs, I must note my reservations. "Our main task is the security of the (Jewish) residents of Hebron and those visiting the Cave of Patriarchs, and we must not make light of with their fate. We have already learned that whenever we try to protect Palestinian lives, Jews end up getting hurt," he wrote. The cave, he stressed, was the second most scared place to the Jewish people, and therefore "any decision which may prevent Jewish masses from visiting the forefathers' tombs should be avoided." Yishai implored Barak to put the matter to a cabinet vote: "A decision of this nature, which is bound to affect the lives of many Jews, must be made only after the government ministers have a chance to study and prioritize it." The right decision," he concluded, "can be made prior to the High Court hearing on the matter in July."

"His blaming the evacuees for the situation that he and his masters led them [into] is the height of cynicism," it added.
"The Legal Forum struggled, fought and begged to stop the evacuation until a communal solution was found for the evacuess, but Bassi and the Administration ran a false campaign that stated that there is 'a solution for every resident' – something that was proven to be a lie," the Forum went on to state. "Had Mr.Bassi cooperated with the Legal Forum's suggestions, he would not now be sitting as the first person to be questioned by the Committee of Inquiry."
Judge Matza said that Bassi would appear again before the commission of inquiry.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Sunday he is committed to improving the economic status of Palestinian Authority residents. He added that all bureaucratic obstacles to this end should be removed if they were not linked to security issues....
Netanyahu was speaking ahead of a planned trip to Washington, where he is scheduled to meet US President Barack Obama. Obama has said he expects Israel to make political gestures that would restart the peace process....Netanyahu concluded by saying that the purpose of the committee would be to improve the Palestinians' freedom of movement, using methods beginning with but not limited to the removal of some checkpoints.
What is going on here, and how is that linked to the pope's visit?
First of all, it is clear that the removal of checkpoints is linked to the coming visit of Netanyahu to the US next week. But let's not forget that the star of the show today in America is National Security Advisor Jim Jones, who said today:

To be fair, let us also remember the 800 dogs that died in Rome when the Tiber River overflowed its banks all the way to the Vatican's steps, during the week that we read the parsha of Jacob's fight with Esau's angel; and let us not forget that Romulus and Remus, the founders of Rome, were raised by a WOLF, Rome's symbol
And let us also not forget ALL THE CHURCHES THAT WERE LEVELLED DURING THE EARTHQUAKE in AQUILA ( "eagle"), and in all of Abruzzo, on April 7th, EREV PESSACH, but more exactly received their final blow on the night of the 7th to the 8th of April, during Birka Hachamah.
The 7th of April was the exact day of the 800TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE FRANCISCAN CUSTODIANS TO THE HOLY LAND, QUITE A "PARTY POOPER" for them, I am sure.

Am Yisrael wants the Temple rebuilt!
A survey conducted by the Panels Insitute revealed that 64 % of the Israeli public , and half of secular Israelis, want the Temple rebuilt. 97% of respondents know that the Temple was destroyed on Tisha B'Av ( Ninth of Av).
The survey's second question queried the public’s desire to rebuild the Temple. Sixty-four percent responded favorably and 36 percent said no. Analysis of the answers revealed that not only hareidi-religious and other religious Jews want to rebuild the Temple, (100 percent and 97 percent respectively), but also the traditional public (91 percent) and many secular Jews (47 percent) do as well.
