The family of Asher and Jonathan Palmer has called for the public to come support them at the next hearing in their murderers' trial.

Supporters of the terrorist murderers of Asher Palmer and his infant son Jonathan were allowed to come to the first hearing at the court where the trial is being held.
Michael Palmer, Asher's father, sent Arutz Sheva a letter in which he asked to publish his request that the Israeli public to come and stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the family at the next hearing in two weeks.
"In the previous hearing, approximately 20 supporters of these terrorist killers sat in court, encouraged them, and shouted cries of support," Palmer explained. "My other son and I, just the two of us sitting alone, represented Asher, little Jonathan and all the victims of terror in Israel."
"You can imagine the pain we felt when we saw the murderers receiving vocal support for killing my son and my grandson, and we were alone," wrote the bereaved father.
Palmer informed Arutz Sheva that the next hearing is scheduled for 9:30 a.m., on March 11, at the Ofer military base. The hearing is open to the public, but everyone entering the court has to be cleared by security first.
Those interested in supporting the Palmer family in court should email Michael Palmer by March 6 at mcpfiveone@gmail.com, so that he can submit the names to the army for security clearance.
Asher Palmer, 25, from Kiryat Arba, and his son Jonathan, a one-year old, were murdered five months ago while traveling on Route 60, near the village of Halhul, north of Hebron.
Arabs hurled large stones at Palmer's vehicle, one of which smashed through the window and struck him in the head. Palmer lost control of the vehicle, which rolled of the road killing him and his son.

 I contacted Asher Palmer, HY"D's father, Michael, asking for details, as I myself would like to go there and show support. I also contacted certain friends of mine who are showing interest. Please let's be there as a group; this is our chance to effect a change and awareness of the terrible situation on our roads in Yesha. This is what he sent me, below; no excuse not to go, there is public transportation, it is a public hearing, it is in the Jerusalem vicinity - all it takes is MOTIVATION! 

After being firebombed less than a week ago in Beit Umar, watching the bus I was sitting in catch fire, smelling the petrol, and seeing the impotence and deliberate neglect of these life-threatening situations by the IDF, I am more than motivated.

Please join us, and let us report publicly on what happened at the hearing.

Turkish Flag Flew over Temple Mount

(Israelnationalnews.com) The Turkish flag was raised over the Temple Mount last week following the flotilla clash while Jerusalem police banned Jews from holding the monthly march around the ancient gates of the holy site because of “security concerns.”
Police spokesman Mickey Rosenfeld told Israel National News that the unprecedented flag raising was legal.
The pictures of the Turkish flag waving over the Temple Mount, where the First and Second Holy Temples were built and where the golden-domed Al-Aqsa mosque now stands, were published on the Turkish web site PLS48.net.
One blogger pointed out that the incident of a foreign flag over the site coincided with the furor over a project by Muslims to built a 13-story mosque near Ground Zero, where Muslim terrorists attacked and destroyed the twin towers of the World Center Sept. 1, 2001, killing nearly 3,500 people.
Although there is no law against raising flags over the site, the practice has been shunned in order to prevent flaring tempers from Muslims and Jews. The Israel flag was raised over the Temple Mount for a few hours on June 6, 1967, after all of Jerusalem was restored to Israel in the Six-Day War. It was taken down under orders of then-IDF Chief of Staff Moshe Dayan. %ad%
Recently-retired Haaretz journalist Nadav Shragai wrote two years ago that researchers previously have suggested various and often conflicting ideas concerning flags over the Old City. He disclosed the previously unpublished conclusions of a study on a political agreement with the Arab world over the status of Jerusalem and its holy sites.
The study was written by Jerusalem Institute for Israel Studies Ora Achimeir after a study by a team led by Israel Prize winner Prof. Ruth Lapidot.
“Achimeir is skeptical about the possibility of both sides to the conflict flying flags without restrictions and believes that 'the situation of hostility and competition between Israelis and Palestinians, which does not seem likely to dissipate in the near future, would lead to mass flying of flags that would turn the historic basin into a bedlam of flags and symbols.’” Shragai wrote.

He noted that during peace talks with Israel in 1978, Egyptian President Anwar Sadat suggested raising the Saudi Arabia flag over holy site in Jerusalem, but then-Prime Minister Menachem Begin fumed at the proposal. “There is no way that something of that kind will ever take place in Jerusalem," Begin declared. "The Temple Mount is the holiest site in Jerusalem. The Israelis also do not raise any flag there. If there is peace, the Arabs will be able to fly flags on every embassy that they open in Jerusalem."
Jimmy Carter, who then was President of the United States, warned that Sadat would not sign a peace treaty without the raising of the Saudi flag. He suggested that a flag would be flown only over the mosque and nowhere else over the Temple Mount, but Begin retorted, "Not on the Temple Mount," according to Shragai. “We are losing our conscience. Is it not enough that we have forbidden [Jews] to pray on the Temple Mount? We will not be able to agree to that also for too long a time. But the raising of a religious flag on the Temple Mount would be tantamount to recognition that it belongs to the Muslims."
Past peace plans that have been proposed by the Foreign Ministry and the Prime Minister's Office have provided that foreign flags be considered "religious flags.” Even in the almost impossible likelihood that Muslims were to allow a Jewish flag over the Temple Mount, one would have to be invented because there is none.
The issue of flag in the area is so emotional that in 1984, the Muslim religious trust, known as the Waqf, demanded that the Jerusalem police unit on the Temple Mount remove an Israeli flag that was inside the commander’s room. The late Yosef Burg, who was Minister of Police at the time, ordered the flags be restored, an act that raised the ire of Muslims.

Residents: Police Apathetic on Maale Zeitim Shooting

(Israelnationalnews.com) Residents of the Maale Zeitim neighborhood on the Mount of Olives have sent an angry letter to Public Security Minister Yitzchak Aharonovich, demanding that he discipline police in Jerusalem who have not, as of Sunday morning, bothered to follow up on a complaint of gunshots fired at residents of the neighborhood. The incident occurred at about 1 PM Friday, when an Arab, covered in a headcloth, fired a device at homes in the neighborhood for about one minute before running away. Residents called police immediately, but were met with apathy, they said. A call to the fire department, on the other hand, was responded to immediately, after the firing of the device set off a brush fire meters away from one of the homes in the area.

Aryeh King, a resident of the neighborhood, wrote in the letter that the incident was one of a long line in which police did not seek to ensure the Jewish residents of predominantly Arab neighborhoods in Jerusalem. “I think these incidents should compel you to find out what is going on in the Jerusalem police department,” he wrote. 

Residents: Police Don't Enforce Law in Eastern Jerusalem

This past Friday, a stocking-masked Arab fired a pop gun at Jewish homes in Maaleh HaZeitim for nearly a minute straight – and the police did not arrive when called. A request for comment has been submitted to the Jerusalem Police district.

PM’s Office to Jerusalem City: No Razing Illegal Arab Buildings

(Israelnationalnews.com) The riddle of the city’s failure to implement demolition orders against illegal Arab structures has been officially solved: The PM’s Office said no.

The Director-General of the Municipality of Jerusalem explained the situation to MK Uri Ariel of the National Union party.

Ariel had written to Director Ya’ir Maayan, asking why the illegal buildings continue to remain standing, despite demolition orders outstanding against them. Maayan wrote as follows: 

“As you know, the municipality works towards enforcing the law throughout the city. Demolition orders are carried out with the accompaniment of Israel Police for the protection [of the personnel carrying out the orders].”

However, continued Maayan, “in the past month, dates for demolition were coordinated with the police – but they were canceled at the last minute because the Prime Minister’s Office did not issue its approval.”

MK Ariel said in response, “It’s been a while now that I have been tracking the non-implementation of demolition orders in Jerusalem, and I warned several times that the delay is simply political. Now, for the first time, an official has admitted that the one preventing the enforcement of the law is none other than the Prime Minister himself.”

Official: PM Ordered Us Not to Demolish Illegal Homes

(Israelnationalnews.com) Yair Ma'ayan, the General Manager of the Jerusalem Municipality, said on Sunday that the reason demolition orders had not been carried out against dozens of illegally built Arab structures in the city was due to demands by the office of Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu to ignore the orders. The information was revealed in a response by Ma'ayan to a letter from MK Uri Ariel (National Union) demanding to know why legally issued demolition orders against buildings illegally constructed by Arabs throughout the city were not being enforced.

In the letter, Ma'ayan said that “as you know, the municipality seeks to enforce the law. Demolition orders are generally carried out by inspectors, backed by police reinforcements. Over the past month,” he wrote, “a number of planned demolitions were cancelled, due to orders by the Prime Minister's Office.”

In response, MK Ariel said that he had already realized some time ago that the demolition orders were being ignored because of politics. “This is the first time an official has admitted that the source for the lack of law enforcement is the Prime Minister himself.”

PA Forces in Binyamin – without IDF

(Israelnationalnews.com) Residents of the Jewish town of Gush Telmonim, in the Binyamin region, report that over 150 Palestinian Authority troops recently approached their town with no IDF escort. The IDF Civil Administration confirmed the incident, but declined to explain it.
PA security troops are normally required to work alongside the IDF if they enter an area such as Gush Telmonim, in which Israel is responsible for security.

While THIS is also going on - nothing new, unfortunately; together, they form an ominous picture.

Violent Expulsion in Samaria

(Israelnationalnews.com) Dozens of residents of Reches Sela reported Saturday evening that they had been violently expelled from their community over the course of the Sabbath. Police expelled the group following clashes between Jews and Arabs from the nearby village of Burin.
Police used stun grenades and batons on residents during the forced eviction, they said. An eight-year-old child was wounded during the scuffle.
Reches Sela is located in Samaria, near the town of Bracha.

Arabs Attack Jews in Eastern Jerusalem

(Israelnationalnews.com) Arabs cursed and attacked Jews in an eastern Jerusalem neighborhood while police looked on, until they intervened by arresting Jews, eyewitnesses reported. The clash in the Shimon HaTzadik neighborhood began when a new Jewish family began unloading possessions for their new apartment home.
Arabs and anarchists, who have been maintaining a permanent presence at a protest tent opposite the community, wrestled with one young Jewish man in the group, according to Avi-Chail Peled, a hero in the Yom Kippur War and who witnessed the attack. He reported that police quietly stood by while the attackers brutally beat the victim, who required medical care. Peled called to police, who maintain a constant patrol in the neighborhood, to stop the assault, but they did nothing.
Officers eventually intervened and stopped the clash by arresting four Jews, who were taken into custody for questioning. Police spokesmen were unavailable for comment.
National Union Knesset Member Michael Ben-Ari, who arrived at the scene after being informed of the attack, told Arutz Sheva, "The handwriting was on the wall. I sent a letter to the police several weeks ago that Arabs were harassing Jews. I eventually received a letter from the police that they were dealing with the problem. Tonight's clash proves that this was not the right answer, to make an understatement."
He said his party intends to put an end to this "farce" where "the victim becomes the accused" He added, "I do not understand why the police allow the tent protest to remain when it has become a tent of incitement for violence against Jewish residents."

Demographer: Beware Bibi's Plans for PA

(Israelnationalnews.com) Demographer Yoram Ettinger warned Thursday that plans discussed the day before by Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and several of his ministers are likely to encourage Arab growth in Judea and Samaria. Netanyahu's plans could tip demographics in the PA's favor, thus posing a security threat to Israel, he said.

Demography is an important component of the Arab war on Israel, and plays a role vis-a-vis Israel's long-term security, he explained. Israel's policies should take demographics into account, he said.

"For Palestinians, the emigration factor is more important than the birthrate. If we want a Jewish majority west of the Jordan, we have to understand that projects like these [supported by Netanyahu] encourage Palestinians to move here, which could endanger the Jewish majority in Israel," he said.

Israel is largely responsible for the rapid growth of the hostile Arab population in Judea and Samaria since 1967, Ettinger said. Prior to 1967, when the area was under Jordanian rule, tens of thousands of residents left each year for more developed areas, he said. Since 1967, when Israel provided infrastructure and jobs, the population has steadily grown.

Currently, Arab emigration from Judea and Samaria is relatively high following Hamas' victory in the most recent elections and a demand for labor in Gulf states. However, by creating tens of thousands of jobs for PA Arabs, as Netanyahu hopes to do, Israel will encourage Arabs to immigrate to the area, Ettinger warned.

The results could be significant, he said. Sixty percent of the people living between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea are Jewish at the present time, he said – 67 percent if Gaza is not taken into account. By encouraging Arab immigration to the area, Israel could risk losing the Jewish majority in the region.

Ettinger also warned against turning control of crossings between Jordan and Judea and Samaria over to Arab or international control. "On the day that Israel gives control of the crossings to international or Palestinian bodies, what will happen is that one million Palestinians will enter Judea and Samaria, not because of long-term financial considerations but due to money that they'll be given by terrorist organizations... This will create an automatic flood to within the 'Green Line' [pre-1967 Israel] as well."

PA Birthrate Dropping
Ettinger's warnings came shortly after the PA admitted that the Arab birthrate in Judea and Samaria has dropped dramatically in the past 12 years. The birthrate in Judea, Samaria and Gaza stood at 6.0 in 1997, but dropped to 4.6 by 2009, PA officials said.

The PA claims that 2.4 million Arabs live in Judea and Samaria, and another 1.5 million in Gaza. Their claims have been disputed by several Israeli demographers, who point out that PA estimates ignore negative Arab immigration, and double-count hundreds of thousands of PA Arabs living in Jerusalem and pre-1967 Israel.

PA statisticians found that unemployment among those seeking work is currently 25 percent. Despite this, almost all families reported possessing basic electronic devices including a refrigerator, an oven and a television, and more than 82 percent had satellite television.

Porush: PA the Boss in Jerusalem

(Israelnationalnews.com) The Palestinian Authority is acting as if it were the sovereign power in eastern Jerusalem, Deputy Education Minister Meir Porush warned Thursday. Despite official Israeli rule in the city, the PA is openly holding events and greeting diplomats without interference, he said.

As an example, Porush described an official PA ceremony greeting a visiting Egyptian diplomat. Senior PA officials and leading members of Fatah participated in the ceremony, which was held in a Jerusalem hotel.

During the ceremony, the Egyptian diplomat told assembled PA officials, "The Arab world will not allow the Judaization of Jerusalem."

The ceremony was meant to send the message that, sooner or later, Jerusalem will be under PA control, Porush said. "And the fact that this was publicized in the media with no significant public response proves that an erosion has begun, a gnawing away at the Israeli consensus that sees united Jerusalem as the capital of the Jewish people," he added.

Porush, of the hareidi-religious United Torah Judaism party, ran for mayor of Jerusalem in the most recent city elections, but lost to current Mayor Nir Barkat.

Porush blamed the current situation in Jerusalem on the Kadima-led government under former Prime Minister Ehud Olmert. Olmert offered the PA control of much of Jerusalem, he said. According to United States media, Olmert even offered to give up Israeli sovereignty over holy sites in historic Jerusalem and turn control of the area over to an international authority led in part by the PA and Saudi Arabia.

"Who knows what else Olmert promised them?" Porush asked.

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and his government must immediately work to fix the damage Olmert caused with his promises to the PA regarding Jerusalem, Porush said. He called on the government to crack down on activities conducted by the PA and Fatah in the capital city.

In addition, Israel must begin a public relations campaign aimed at repeating the message that united Jerusalem belongs exclusively to the Jewish people, he said.

Preventing the PA from creating the image of Arab sovereignty in Jerusalem is particularly relevant right now, as the Jewish people enter the traditional three weeks of mourning for the fall of the first and second Temples, Porush said. "We must remain faithful to the spiritual and physical unity of the city," he concluded.

PA Police, Fatah Forces in City
Porush's warning follows several recent reports of PA and Fatah activity in Jerusalem neighborhoods. In March, Jerusalem police admitted to allowing PA forces to operate in some Arab neighborhoods in Jerusalem in order to solve clan disputes and similar matters.

In June, Ichud Leumi MKs Aryeh Eldad and Uri Ariel, and Jerusalem activist Aryeh King, were attacked by PA officers in an Arab neighborhood inside the Jerusalem municipal boundaries.

Two weeks ago, Fatah officials were involved in preventing Jews from entering a Jewish-owned home in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood of Jerusalem.

On Saturday, heavy fighting broke out between rival Arab clans in the Mei Shiloach (Silwan) neighborhood of Jerusalem. According to Arab residents of the neighborhood, plainclothes PA police attempted to intervene in the fighting.


Watch this video too, which shows you exactly what this supposedly right-wing government, elected to conduct right-wing policies, is up to: the danger it is exposing Jews to on a daily basis, its abdication of responsibility for Jerusalem or Israel as a whole, and of Yesha in particular, soothing words uttered notwithstanding.

Will Netanyahu Change Israel Forever?

While keen observers of Israel's political scene clearly understand that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is Israel's most Americanized prime minister in its history, little is ever discussed as to what this means for the future of Israel's political system.

Prime Minister Netanyahu has spent more time in the U.S. than any of the previous twelve prime ministers in Israel's history. Because of this, his perception of the world has clearly been affected.

In a starkly American way, he is an enthusiast for democracy, egalitarianism and civil liberties. Netanyahu, in his well publicized June 14, 2009 speech at Bar Ilan University in Tel Aviv, stated, "I share the desire of the President of the United States to bring about a new era of reconciliation in our region." Netanyahu believes that if the Islamic states that surround Israel will just embrace post-modernism as it regards democracy, egalitarianism and civil liberties and put the Koran on the back shelf that there will be peace. In Netanyahu's fantasy, a vibrant regional economy -- central to his vision -- and western education will remake the conflict. Ultimately, his view differs from Obama's in nuance only.

While often depicted in the media as a hardliner, a rightist, or a hawk, he is no more these things than was former Prime Minister Ariel Sharon. Netanyahu is, in the realm of ideas, a post-modern disciple; there is nothing essentially conservative or classical in his world-view. He sees religiosity as something best left in the past; he is the consummate pragmatist.

From his previous stint as Israel's prime minister from 1996-1999, Netanyahu should have learned that the political structure of Israel must be fundamentally changed if he and his Likud party are to ever achieve the kind of hegemony in Israeli politics and culture that the socialists held from 1948-1977.

We should expect the following from Netanyahu:

1) A radical expansion of executive powers. This expansion will be highly difficult to roll back when the power shifts back to the leftist parties. (See Public Policy and Electoral Reform: The Case of Israel by Gideon Doron and Michael Harris for Netanyahu's record on this in his first term.)

2) An increase in the use of American political strategists such as Arthur J. Finkelstein, a New York based Republican consultant. Finkelstein has worked on Israeli campaigns for over ten years and has advised Netanyahu in the past. More time and money will be spent protecting popularity ratings than substantive progress. Netanyahu will also encourage his admirers to continue supporting sycophant think tanks. Ideas will be trumped by image.

3) Netanyahu will once again push for the return of direct election of the prime minister-- a particular personal fixation that allowed his election in 1996. This effort will be paired with a renewed and sustained effort to move Israel to personality based election campaigning.

4) Tighter control of the Likud primary election system. Netanyahu will want to avoid, at all cost, any efforts by the right wing of Likud to make the Likud into the nationalist party that its Herut party forefathers intended. He finds the rhetoric of the Orthodox Jewish and pro-settlement nationalists to be embarrassing and distasteful. He wants the Likud to be portrayed as analogous to the blue-blood, pre-Reagan Republican Party in the United States. It matters not that Likud's platform is much closer to the Democratic Party on far too many domestic issues.

5) Party governance in the Likud will become even less democratic. A purge of the religious and nationalist elements of the party will be carried out. The internal party courts and apparatuses will be fully deployed in this effort. Primary elections in Likud will become rubber stamps.

6) The Netanyahu camp will insist on a dramatic increase in the minimum Knesset election threshold as a centerpiece of their political system reboot. The lasting effect of reengineering the Knesset election threshold will be to permanently destroy all small and medium size parties and those renegade Likud elements through marginalization.

The goal is to manipulate the Knesset landscape so that the current twelve parties will be whittled down significantly. The change in the threshold will cause one combined far left Jewish / Arab list and one combined far right / Orthodox Jewish list to be created. Netanyahu's goal is to create a system with just two parties within the next two to four elections. Likud and Labor will be increasingly portrayed as Republicans and Democrats. Factions will develop within each party just as has taken place within American politics since Teddy Roosevelt. Netanyahu will make moves in the future to change the system even more. Both Tzipi Livni's Kadima and Avigdor Lieberman's Yisrael Beiteinu parties will be placed into the vise and, if at all possible, eliminated or forced to negotiate a merger. The settlers in particular would have their political clout diminished to a potentially fatal level.

Netanyahu, however, with his obsessions of all things American, will not support a constitution for Israel and will continue to marginalize this fundamental flaw within the Israeli body politic. As constitutional scholar Dr. Paul Eidelberg has pointed out, there is an enduring "myth that Israel is a functioning, free democracy with a constitution, representative districts and a balance of powers similar to the U.S. system." Netanyahu will do nothing to destroy that myth while maintaining the status-quo after all; he has been one of its greatest beneficiaries.

Eidelberg has long sought the introduction of a bicameral legislature and the direction election of members of Knesset. Those innovations will go a long way in revitalizing Israel's wellbeing.

In the 100 days since the government was formed, not only have there been no new housing starts authorized, but there has been no progress on existing projects," the statement said.

2 Dead in Clan War Near Temple Mount; 'Where Were Police?'

(Israelnationalnews.com) An Arab clan war broke out just south of the Temple Mount in Jerusalem over the weekend, escalating into a full-blown gun battle that claimed the lives of two Arabs and left ten others injured. Residents of the Silwan area, both Jewish and Arab, say they are frightened to leave their houses, and claim police refused to intervene and stop the violence.

Silwan is the Arab neighborhood stretching from the south of the Temple Mount to the facing Armon HaNetziv mountain ridge. It is also the home to the Ir David (City of David) Jewish neighborhood, which numbers around 50 families and is visited by tens of thousands of tourists each year who come to see the Shiloah spring and archaeological garden.

On Friday night, a fight broke out between youths of the Rajabi and Udan-Gawani clan families. The dispute turned into a full-blown war on Saturday night as combatants used automatic rifles and grenades to settle the score.

"It Was Literally Like a War"
"There was automatic fire until three in the morning," Devorah Adler, a resident of Ir David, told Israel National News. "We took our five small children into our room for protection. No one slept too much."

"It was literally like a war," she went on. "I think there were hundreds of people shooting. The muazzins [mosque loudspeakers] were blasting all night. People were throwing bottles and rocks. We were all scared."

Devorah's husband, Yonaton, called the police emergency hotline. "They hung up on me twice," he said. "I asked them, 'How do I protect my family? Should we leave our home?' They told me they couldn't give me more details and they couldn't advise us on what do to because they didn't want to take responsibility for someone getting killed."

Finally, on the third call, the hotline put him through to a police captain. "He told us to stay in a safe place inside our house, that's all," Yonaton said.

"The police did nothing," he continued. "It's scandalous. This is Jerusalem, the capital of the Jewish state, and the police let a gun battle go on a hundred meters south of the Western Wall. After everything quieted down, the police came in and drove around a bit. They threw a few stun grenades, nobody is quite sure why."

Arabs Are Just as Afraid to Leave Homes
Arab residents agreed that police did little to stop the fight. "There are shots being fired from M-16s and other rifles," Dawud told Kol Yisrael radio, holed up in his home to avoid stray bullets.

"Civilians are shooting at civilians and the police are doing nothing," he said. "Two clan families are battling each other and the police tell them to break their heads. They are shooting on the street and the police are standing by and watching. There are three jeeps of border police officers doing nothing."

Israel Police Stand By, PA Police Take Action
A report in Yediot Acharonot claimed that Palestinian Authority plainclothes police officers entered the area to try and stop the violence. PA police are officially forbidden from operating in the Jerusalem municipal area, but recent reports indicate that the Israeli police are turning to them for help quieting Arab clan battles in eastern Jerusalem.

"The Israeli police have a policy not to get involved in Arab clan wars," explained Binyamin Trooper, a member of Ir David's security committee. "They think they should just let the Arabs kill each other. If they would get involved, they could stop the violence in half an hour, but they're afraid."

"This incident is just one in a string of violent fights where the police chose not to get involved," Binyamin continued. "Three weeks ago a clan war broke out closer to home, in the middle of Ir David. I stayed in a house with a woman stuck in the middle of the battle, just to try and protect her. The police did nothing," he said.

"Last week, a fight broke out near the top of Ir David," he continued. "The security guards got involved because a Jewish man was endangered. A few border police officers came, and they stood on the side and watched. They did nothing until they felt their own lives were in danger, then they shot in the air. It's a pitiful situation."

The spokesman for Ir David, as well as the head of security at the site, refused to comment on the disturbances. Residents say they fear negative publicity will hurt tourist revenues.

Police: We Acted Quickly to End Voilence
Police spokesman Mickey Rosenfeld painted a different picture of the weeked voilence. He told Israel National News that local and national police units acted swiftly to end the riots and added that forces arrested three people who were involved in shooting. He also said he was unaware of PA police acting in the area.

Rosenfeld also said that the police operate on a high level in eastern Jerusalem, and explained that residents are not always aware of the complete extent of police activity to protect them from harm.
