A Muslim man in the Indian city of Jodhpur slit his four-year-old daughter's throat in a sacrifice to Allah, the Times of India reported.

Nawab Ali Qureshi, 26, admitted to murdering his eldest daughter Rizwana on Friday as a sacrifice for the month of Ramadan.

Qureshi took Rizwana to a market to get sweets. That night, woke her and took her to the balcony. Qureshi recited verses from the Koran before slitting Rizwana's throat. He then went back to sleep.

Qureshi's wife found their daughter's body at approximately 3 AM Saturday morning. He initially blamed the family cat for slashing her throat, but later admitted to the murder.

Jodhpur police reported that during his interrogation he stated: "I love my child more than my own life" and therefore "I offered my daughter as a sacrifice."

Bank Of Israel To Double Down On Equities, Will Invest In European Stocks

Stanley Fischer, who cost his central bank a lot of money with his ill-timed bet to invest billions of the Bank of Israel's foreign  currency reserves on names such as Apple last year, has demonstrated that Einstein's definition of insanity is alive and well when it comes to central-planners, has just decided to double down on stocks. Alas, this is not a joke. Bloomberg reports that "The Bank of Israel plans to almost double equity holdings by the end of the year after falling bond yields prompted the central bank to invest in European shares for the first time. The bank will increase its stock holdings to as much as 6 percent of foreign-exchange reserves, or about $4.5 billion, from 3 percent at the end of 2012, according to Yossi Saadon, a Bank of Israel spokesman. Investments in shares rose to about 4.5 percent of assets in the first four months of 2013 as the institution made a "small allocation" to European equities in addition to its U.S. funds, he said." Well, if the BOI's investment in AAPL was the beginning of the end for that company, one can start shorting Europe - an academic Keynesian just called the top.
Why is the Bank of Israel gambling in a manner that until recently was seen as taboo by even the most clueless of economist PhDs? For a reason only an absolutely clueless academic could come up with: "risk-premia." Bloomberg again:

"The basis for the decision to invest in equities is the expected equity-risk premium over bonds," Saadon wrote in an e- mailed response to questions today. "The goal of this move is to improve the return-to-risk ratio of the reserves."

Is that like Obama's "profit and earning ratios"?

The Bank of Israel bought equities for the first time in March of last year, according to Saadon. The initial purchases were made through UBS AG and BlackRock Inc. The bank's investments are in passive funds tracking broad MSCI indexes, including companies like Apple Inc.

"There has been talk for a long time that they needed to diversify out of Israel," said Uri Landesman, president of New York-based hedge fund Platinum Partners, which manages about $1.2 billion. "I'm not thrilled with the European equity market this second, but when a central bank makes a move like this, it's not a day trade. They're not going to reverse themselves overnight."

The Israeli institution joins the the Swiss National Bank in buying shares this year. The Zurich-based SNB's stock portfolio rose to 15 percent of assets last quarter, from 12 percent at the end of last year, according to data released yesterday on its website.

And that is how it's done.
So for all those who still have something as trivial as a cost-basis when chasing risk in the "new normal", and unlike central banks, can't simply conjure buying dry powder out of thin air printer, which they then use to accumulate "foreign reserves" with which to buy stocks, all we have to say is "condolences."
Of course, the central banks know this, and hope that everyone else merely comes along for the ride and front runs the banks to such an extent that an actual investment is unnecessary. Kinda like Draghi's Europe and the whole still non-existent OMT. The one thing these same academics forget is that the reason nobody wants to invest in markets anymore, is because being side by side central banks guarantees yet another epic bubble burst just like last time. And since the market is now officially broken, and since everyone else will get to exit first, what is the point of being herded into whatever stock some Princeton or MIT professor says you should buy?
In the meantime, central banks can just buy and sell stocks to each other sending "markets" to 30,000, 40,000, 50,000 or some other now meaningless number. Everyone knows now we are in the biggest and final bubble. If nothing else, at least having cluless economists buying stocks regardless of prices will bring the final reset that much faster.

A people have no need to annex what is already theirs

The very fact that the Israeli Knesset passed a bill that would require a referendum before any land officially under Israeli sovereignty is surrendered, specifically the Golan Heights and Jerusalem, is in itself a tacit admission by the present Israeli government that at some future time the very thought of giving away these parts of the ancestral and biblical Jewish homeland may be entertained.

That is treachery most base; treachery to the living Torah; treachery to Jewish history; treachery to Zion; and last but not least treachery to the eternal Holy Covenant made between God and the Jewish people . Liberals, leftists and secular folks may not like being told this, but it is a truth that cannot shrivel away.

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu’s office rejected the idea that the referendum law would hurt the chances for peace negotiations between Israel and its neighbors. But when did it become an accepted truism that a so-called peace between Israel and the Arabs, those who call themselves Palestinians, requires that Israel gives to them it’s very biblical birthright for a mess of potage?

Have the Oslo Accords, the Wye Agreement, the Roadmap, ad nauseum, all now superseded the eternal possession of the Jewish people to their God given homeland? It would seem so, and that is a monstrous tragedy so enormous as to spit in the face of the Almighty and make the very angels in heaven weep.

Netanyahu said: “A referendum prevents an irresponsible agreement and on the other hand makes it possible to achieve a strong public backing for an agreement that will respond to Israel’s national interests.”

There again. The word “agreement” and the implicit suggestion that the Golan Heights, ancient biblical Bashan, the homeland of the Tribe of Manasseh, may be given away in an, oh, so base agreement with the Syrian Arabs.

The referendum bill also covers United Jerusalem, but then if the Knesset votes more than two thirds to give away parts of Jerusalem to the hateful Arabs, known as Palestinians, in order for them to create a new Arab capital that has never existed in all of recorded history, it will be a sin so abhorrent that I fear God’s wrath upon the Land itself.

And all this political foolishness is to appease the present occupant of the White House who is a clear and present danger to the very existence of Eretz Yisrael, the Land of Israel. All this erodes the millennial and inalienable rights of one people alone – the Jewish people – to the land between the River Jordan and the Mediterranean Sea. Indeed, there should be demands made upon the artificial entity known as the Kingdom of Jordan for the return of biblical Gilead – the ancestral homeland of the Jewish tribes of Gad and Manasseh.

Prime Minister Netanyahu’s government and previous governments stretching back to that of Yitzhak Rabin, all betrayed Jewish patrimony in the Land of Israel. They have accepted the Arab and pro-Arab lie that Israel “occupies” Arab territory – specifically territory belonging to a fraudulent Arab people who have come to call themselves Palestinians. This stupidity has torn a grievous, self-inflicted wound into the very psyche of Jews within Israel and the Diaspora.   

Notice that the referendum refers only to Jerusalem and the Golan because they were “annexed.”  Does that fact make them special? These are Jewish lands and there is no need to annex what already belongs to the Jewish people.

Notice too, that Judea and Samaria are not included in this foolish attempt to bargain over an illusory “land for peace” deal with the Arab world. The reason given is that Judea and Samaria have not been annexed.

Again! So what? These lands are the very warp and woof, the very fabric and fiber of Jewish history during and after biblical times. Whether they were or were not annexed is mere sophistry.  

I was looking back at what Professor Talia Einhorn wrote in 2003 about Judea, Samaria and Gaza, or as it is known by its Hebrew acronym, Yesha: meaning Yehuda, Shomron and Azza.

She was commenting on the ‘slip of the tongue” by then Prime Minister Sharon who used the word “occupation” in reference to Israel’s presence in Yesha. In 2003, Yesha still included Gaza. It was abandoned in 2005 for the sake of peace!

She stated clearly then that Israel, the Jewish state, is not an “occupying force” in Yesha. This is what she said:
‘‘Up until 1948, Judea, Samaria and Gaza were a part of the British Mandate. In the 1948 War of Independence, Egypt illegally grabbed the Gaza Strip and Jordan took Judea and Samaria, the ‘West Bank’.

“Egypt did not claim sovereignty in Gaza but Jordan deigned, in 1950, to annex Judea and Samaria. This annexation was not recognized by international law. The Arab nations objected to it, and only Britain and Pakistan recognized it – and Britain did not recognize the annexation of eastern Jerusalem.

“In 1967, after the Six Day War, these territories – which were originally meant for the Jewish Nation’s National Home according to the Mandate Charter – returned to Israeli control.

Professor Einhorn added that, “according to international law, Israel has full right to try to populate the entire Land of Israel with dense settlement and thus actualize the principles set by the League of Nations in the original Mandate Charter of San Remo in 1920.

“At that time, the mandate to the Land of Israel was granted to the British and an introduction to the mandate charter states clearly that it is based on the international recognition of the historic ties between the Jewish People and the Land of Israel. Clause II of that mandate charges Britain with ‘ensuring the existence of political, administrative, and economic conditions that will guarantee the establishment of the Jewish national home in the Land of Israel.’”

We, of course, know how that turned out. Britain reneged on its promises and undertakings. Britain tore away 80% all of the mandate territory east of the Jordan River in 1922 and gave it away to the Emir Abdullah.

There is nothing, therefore, in international law that requires the creation of a Palestinian state between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean. Professor Einhorn pointed out that the UN Partition Resolution of November 29, 1947 merely recommended that a Jewish and Arab state in what was the geographical territory known as Palestine “shall come into existence.”

Though the Jewish leadership accepted the partition plan, it was, as we all know, rejected utterly by the Arab states, which thus voided the UN’s recommendation of any legal basis.

So the fact that what is left of Yesha – Judea and Samaria – has not previously been the subject of an Israeli annexation is neither here nor there. It is empirically the Land of Israel by all that is holy. And if that’s a dirty word to some, so be it.

Simply put: The Jewish people do not annex land that already belongs to them. And the Jewish people cannot be called settlers in their very own ancestral and aboriginal homeland.

Now if those facts are understood and hammered home again and again by every Israeli and every Jew in the Diaspora, think of the power and the glory that will illuminate the world as the veil of deception is finally torn from the world’s eyes.

Last night, while crossing King George Street, going down towards Ben-Yehuda Street in Jerusalem, I witnessed a shocking incident.

The first thing I noticed was the silver pistol bulging from the belt of a slouched Moroccan man in his 30's, who was busy grabbing two innocent-looking American seminary girls while brandishing a fake police ID, and ordering them to follow him in the direction of a dark alley. The man was very clearly not a police officer, dressed in jeans and a white tee shirt, with dark, thick, greasy hair, and a menacing demeanor.

Seeing him in action, it was crystal-clear to me that the scumbag was trying to pick-up the girls, if necessary, by force.

I intervened and told the pretty English-speaking girls, who obviously did not understand what he wanted from them and appeared quite confused - "He is just trying to start with you". Meanwhile, the sleazeball continued: "You'll have to come with me or I'll arrest you!" Common sense prevailed and the girls ignored him, instead continuing down Ben-Yehuda Street to their destination of Cafe Rimon. They proceeded to thank me profusely for helping them out. And sure enough, the "policeman" continued hurriedly in the opposite direction, most likely in search of an easier target.

Later on, I reported this incident to a female police officer, who was quite perturbed to find out that an armed "colleague" of hers is in the business of accosting young girls on Ben-Yehuda Street. I hope the police are looking for him, although from my experience with the Israeli police, this is not in their order of priorities.

We don't know what he has done so far, or what he is planning to do in the future; who knows, he might be a rapist or worse. Either way, the community should be aware of this dangerous scoundrel, and of possible accomplices or copycats, and the girls should be warned NOT to respond to any such entreaties. If the police has something to tell them, they should do so in full uniform, with display of a badge, and with other evidence of their membership in the police force.

If you have daughters in seminary in Israel, please contact them immediately and warn them against mingling with suspicious Israeli men; some of them could actually be Arabs in disguise!

Suspicion of First Two Israeli Swine Flu Deaths

(IsraelNN.com) The Health Ministry announced on Sunday night that it is investigating the possibility that two people who died over the weekend were infected with the H1N1 swine-flu virus before they died. Until now, no deaths have been reported among the more than 1,300 cases diagnosed in Israel.

One of the victims was a heavy smoker in his mid 30's who died on Saturday, a day after he was admitted to Eilat's Yoseftal Hospital with pneumonia. The other was a two-year-old boy who was being treated for a chronic illness at Schneider children's hospital in Petach Tikva. Both were in the high risk group for the disease.

No Swine Flu in Case of Two-Year-Old

(IsraelNN.com) The Health Ministry reported Sunday night that the death of a two-year-old boy at Schneider Hospital in Petach Tikva over the weekend was not due to the H1N1 swine-flu virus, according to laboratory reports. The boy's chronic illness had put him into a group that was highly susceptible to the virus.

Laboratory results are still pending on a man in his mid 30's who died at Yoseftal Hospital in Eilat on Saturday, a day after being admitted for pneumonia. The man was described as a heavy smoker. A Health Department investigator said the man was in the highly susceptible group.

So they do have their first case; the big question is, how truthful are they? After the Munchhausen scandal, I do not put any lies or manipulations past them.

First Fatal Case of H1N1 in Israel Confirmed

(IsraelNN.com) The Health Ministry confirmed Monday that a 34-year old man from Eilat died Sunday of complications from H1N1 flu. The man had suffered from pneumonia and was a heavy smoker.

Health officials also said that over 1,500 cases of H1N1 have been diagnosed in Israel thus far. They estimated, however, that there were likely more that had not been reported.

Azran's family filed a police complaint against the hospital, charging that the man's death was a result of medical negligence.


I wonder why they think that. What could have happened at that hospital to make them suspicious that proper care was not administered?

The hospital Director General Avi Goldberg preferred not to comment on whether the doctors suspected Azran had contracted swine flu, and if so why was he not treated with the appropriate medication – Tamiflu.

"An investigative committee is currently being set up, and we will address every claim once we have the results," he added.

50 Children Sick with H1N1 in Bnei Brak

(IsraelNN.com) The Health Ministry said Monday that 50 children were diagnosed with H1N1 flu in the Aleh institution in Bnei Brak. All of the children are in good condition.

Aleh houses 160 children with mental disabilities between the ages of two and 16 in dormitories. It is headed by Rabbi Yehudah Marmorstein.

2-year-old, 50-year-old hospitalized with severe cases of swine flu

A two-year-old girl was admitted to intensive care in Shneider Hospital after coming down with a severe case of the swine flu, Channel 2 reported Monday evening.

Also Monday night, a 50-year-old man suffering from the virus was admitted to Jerusalem's Sha'arei Tzedek Hospital in a serious condition. He was said to be in the 'high-risk' category.

Medical First: Watching Effects of Hi-Carb Food on Arteries

(Israelnationalnews.com) Using a clinical technique pioneered by his laboratory in Israel, Dr. Michael Shechter of Tel Aviv University’s Sackler School of Medicine and the Heart Institute of Sheba Medical Center was able to visualize what happens inside our arteries before, during and after eating high carb foods.

Doctors have known for decades that foods like white bread and corn flakes aren’t good for cardiac health. But, this new landmark study shows exactly how these high carb foods increase the risk for heart problems.

“Looking inside” the arteries of students eating a variety of foods, Dr. Shechter was able to visualize that foods with a high glycemic index caused swelling of brachial arteries in the upper arm for several hours.

Elasticity of arteries anywhere in the body can be a measure of heart health. But when aggravated over time, a sudden expansion of the artery wall can cause a number of negative health effects, including reduced elasticity, which can cause heart disease or sudden death.  

Time to skip the wedding cake?
“It’s very hard to predict heart disease,” says Dr. Shechter, a fellow of the American College of Cardiology and the American Heart Association. “But doctors know that high glycemic foods rapidly increase blood sugar. Those who excessively indulge in these foods have a greater chance of sudden death from heart attack. Our research connects the dots, showing the link between diet and what’s happening in real time in the arteries.”

Like the uncomfortable medical warnings on packets of cigarettes, this new research could lead to a whole new way to show patients the effects of a poor diet on our body. It is a first in medical history seeing precisely what happens inside the body when the wrong foods for a healthy heart are eaten. The results were published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology.

Using 56 healthy volunteers, the researchers looked at four groups. One group ate a cornflake mush mixed with milk, a second a pure sugar mixture, the third bran flakes, while the last group was given a placebo (water). Over four weeks, Dr. Shechter applied his method of “brachial reactive testing” to each group. The test uses a cuff on the arm, like those used to measure blood pressure, which can visualize arterial function in real time.

The results were dramatic. Before any of the fasting patients ate, arterial function was essentially the same. After eating, except for the placebo group, all had reduced functioning.

All roads lead to the walls of the arteries
Enormous peaks indicating arterial stress were found in the high glycemic index groups: the cornflakes and sugar group.  “We knew high glycemic foods were bad for the heart. Now we have a mechanism that shows how,” says Dr. Shechter. “Foods like cornflakes, white bread, french fries, and sweetened soda all put undue stress on our arteries. We’ve explained for the first time how high glycemic carbs can affect the progression of heart disease.” During the consumption of foods high in sugar, there appears to be a temporary and sudden dysfunction in the endothelial walls of the arteries.

Endothelial health can be traced back to almost every disorder and disease in the body. It is “the riskiest of the risk factors,” says Dr. Shechter, who practices at the Chaim Sheba Medical Center ― Tel Hashomer Hospital. There he offers a test that can show patients ― in real time ― if they are at high risk for heart attacks. “Medical tourists” from America regularly visit to take the heart test.

The take-away message? Dr. Shechter says to stick to foods like oatmeal, fruits and vegetables, legumes and nuts, which have a low glycemic index. Exercising every day for at least 30 minutes, he adds, is an extra heart-smart action to take.

Actress Whoopi Goldberg tried the EndoPAT heart test on her finger during a recent episode of The View and came out smiling. After 15 minutes, the Israeli developed device was able to give her heart a passing grade. At least for the next seven years.

Developed by Itamar Medical, an Israeli company traded on the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange, the EndoPAT has been popular not only with celebrities, but also gets a seal of approval from America's doctors, and prestigious medical institutions like the Mayo Clinic.

Earning FDA status in 2003, the EndoPAT can measure the health of your heart using two small probes that hook up to each index finger. While there are other tests on the market like ultrasound tests to help clinicians assess if a patient has the early onset of heart disease, the EndoPAT looks further into the future -- up to seven years, sensing whether or not your arteries are losing elasticity.

Like a blood pressure test on your finger
"The test I'm talking about - a 15 minute test - is a probe on the finger and basically it works the way you take blood pressure," says Dr. Dov Reuven, the company's CEO. "We do the same thing and measure the stress of the arteries in the fingertips."

Used over 150,000 times in the US, the recent vote of confidence from the Mayo Clinic, which tested the EndoPAT on an independent study of healthy volunteers - part of the Framingham Heart Study -- tells doctors that it's a good addition to their toolkit for assessing heart disease.

"That's the beauty of this. That's why it is revolutionary," Reuven tells ISRAEL21c. "The EnoPAT is the easiest detector of this disease. All other devices work within about one, two or three years. There is a test in the US that looks for carotid plaque. The point is once there is a buildup of plaque, it is too late in the cycle. A patient is not going to turn around that much. Ours can already see arteries that are less distensible."

This means that people who may get a clean bill of health from doctors, can look deeper into their future, to know if they are at risk for heart attack seven years down the road. If you discover you are at risk, a regimen for improving health can be developed with a doctor. Changing one's diet and exercise, or taking statins, may be a course of action.

Applications in understanding erectile problems
It also has become an interesting test for understanding erectile dysfunction, and can help a doctor decide whether or not to prescribe erection-enhancing drugs like Cialis, says Reuven.

The same device that tests for heart health can also tell urologists whether or not to prescribe medicine. "It could protect them from malpractice," says Reuven.

Essentially, using this device doctors have a much better way now to control a patient's health to determine if they are at risk of a heart attack. "The importance of the Mayo Clinic story is that today when you go to your physicians or cardiologist, they will ask you seven questions, or risk factors for heart disease, like cholesterol levels, if you smoke, or are overweight," says Reuven.

Sometimes there are people who are considered completely low risk based on these basic questions, but nevertheless are at risk for heart disease. The study examined 240 people who are "specimens of health", tacking them over time, and recording cardiac events, such as chest pains or heart attacks.

The efficacy of the test was confirmed by doctors at Mayo. The clinic writes: "Results of a Mayo Clinic study show that a simple, non-invasive finger sensor test is 'highly predictive' of a major cardiac event, such as a heart attack or stroke, for people who are considered at low or moderate risk, according to researchers."

Mayo's seal of approval
The device is now available at doctors' clinics in the US, including the clinic of The View's house doctor Dr. Stephen Lamm.

Endorsing the product, Lamm says he uses it on every patient, translating to about 200 times a month.

On the show, Whoopi scored a 1.9, "and she was excited," says Reuven. "The real truth is the arterial sclerosis process starts early on in life. This will become part of the screening and treatment process," he adds, mentioning that China is taking a serious look at the device too. "They can't afford heart bypasses and stents."

The EndoPAT has applications in wellness and holistic medicine as a means to quantify if a treatment is working.

The company has a second device, a product that functions like a mini sleep lab used to detect the severity of sleep apnea. Called the WatchPAT it resembles a ski or diving watch. It removes the need for people to spend uncomfortable nights in a sleep lab.

Traded on the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange, the largest investor in Itamar Medical is Medtronic. The company employs about 160 people worldwide.
