'Jewish Underground' Prisoner Starts Hunger Strike

(IsraelNN.com) Ofer Gamliel, who was convicted of membership in a Jewish underground group that planned attacks on Arabs, began a hunger strike on Tuesday after the Supreme Court overturned a lower court ruling that would have allowed him a short leave to visit his family. Gamliel, who has been in prison for over six years, says he has not been granted the privileges given other prisoners, such as leaves from prison.
Friends of Gamliel and other Jewish security prisoners confirm that the prisoners face worse treatment than others, and are not allowed to leave the prison walls even for short periods of time. Gamliel, who has seven children, has not been allowed to leave the prison even once.
