17 Elul 5768, 17 September 08 07:43
(IsraelNN.com) Kadima front runners Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni and Transportation Minister Shaul Mofaz said Tuesday that despite reports to the contrary, they do not plan to ask Prime Minister Ehud Olmert to leave office once a successor is appointed in Kadima's primary elections on Wednesday. Mofaz said he would be "statesman-like" and leave the decision to Olmert, while Livni said the choice should be made by the coalition.

Coalition Chairman Yoel Hasson said Tuesday that he was certain that Olmert would not delay taking leave of office. However, sources close to Olmert hinted that he would stay on. Olmert's spokesman said Tuesday that Olmert planned to continue meeting with Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas in the upcoming weeks, suggesting that Olmert plans to remain in power during that time.
