Kouchner: World Demands Freeze Extension

(Israelnationalnews.com) Speaking Sunday, French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner said that “world opinion will not accept a situation where Israel will decide to renew building in the settlements.” Speaking to Arab media, Kouchner said that France was working together with the United States to prevent a renewal of building in Judea and Samaria, “since this is a critical issue.” 

British FM: Continue Freeze

(Israelnationalnews.com) British Foreign Minister William Haig on Sunday demanded that Israel continue the building freeze in Judea and Samaria. In an interview with Arab media, Hague said that his government continues to hold the position that “all settlements are illegitimate.” 

Clinton Met with Abbas Regarding Freeze

(Israelnationalnews.com) American Secretary of State Hillary Clinton reportedly met with Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas on Friday amid "intense" talks with both PA and Israeli officials ahead of Sunday's expiration of the 10-month American-imposed ban on Jewish construction in Judea and Samaria.

"The discussions are pretty intense right now," said Jeffrey Feltman, US assistant secretary of state for Near Eastern affairs. "We are urging Israel to extend the moratorium and we are also making clear to the Palestinians that we do not believe that it is in their interest to walk out of the talks."

  
Ashton: Disappointed About Freeze End

(Israelnationalnews.com) The European Union's Foreign Policy Chief, Catherine Ashton, expressed on Monday her "regrets" over the Israeli decision not to continue the freeze on construction in Judea and Samaria.

Ashton said in a statement: "We are examining the consequences of this decision and consulting with the parties and our Quartet and Arab partners. The position of the EU is very clear: settlements are illegal under international law, constitute an obstacle to peace and threaten to make a two-state solution impossible."

Barak Expected to Press PM on Freeze

(Israelnationalnews.com) Defense Minister Ehud Barak is set to return to Israel Sunday night, and is expected to pressure Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu to renew the building freeze in Judea and Samaria. Sources close to Barak quoted Barak as saying that a “major crisis” could develop if Israel does not extend the freeze
