Peres to Pope: Your Visit 'Important Spiritual Mission'

(IsraelNN.com) President Shimon Peres spoke at the state ceremony welcoming Pope Benedict XVI to Israel on Monday and called his visit "an important spiritual mission." He explained that the visit was a "mission of peace" which would "be a continuation of the dialogue between Judaism and Christianity."

Peres added, "We have made peace with Egypt and Jordan, and we are in negotiations to make peace with the Palestinians, and even to arrive at a comprehensive regional peace." He added, "Your visit here brings a blessed understanding between religions and spreads peace near and far."
