(IsraelNN.com) A ministerial committee Monday rejected a proposal that would make Cabinet ministers, Knesset Members and other public officials personally responsible for public issues in which they are involved. The current law assigning personal responsibility applies only to mayors and heads of regional councils.
Adi Eldar, director of the Union of Local Authorities in Israel and mayor of Karmiel, charged that if making ministers and MKs responsible is appropriate, the same attitude should apply to local leaders. "Ministers worry about protecting themselves... What are they afraid of?" he asked. "Is their blood thicker [than ours]?"
