He is the son of Ayatollah Majdeddin Mahallati, not Fazlollah Mahallati! He is also hands down one of the most genuine peace activists and people I have ever met. While he was ambassador to the UN, he fought for a self-jeopardizing quick and peaceful end to the Iraq-Iran War. Since then, he has been immeasurably active in peaceful, interfaith organizations and conferences. The current leading opposition candidate, Mir Hussein Mousavi, was also in that government, although by this point, Mousavi's views have changed drastically.<br /><br />Mahallati comes from a family of clerics who specialize in charity.
