I saw this in Thursday's Yediot Ahronot … front page, banner headlines and all. Then it disappeared. Tsippi Livni, the foreign minister, who has been strutting around like one of the kingpins of the government, member of the inner security cabinet, chief negotiator with the Palestinian Au8thority, etc. suddenly would have us believe she was taken totally by surprise. She had nothing to do with such a plan and she opposes it with all her being, etc. Sure I believe her. Was she wearing snake skin shoes when she said that? She knows (so does Olmert but he doesn't have to care any more) that this is unacceptable to the public.
Israel has to tell George Mitchell and his boss that anyone who wants the Jews out of Jerusalem will have to carry us out in rubber bags. That has been done before, of course, and the Arabs want nothing more than to do it again, God forbid! I have no doubt that that is precisely what the UN, the EU, the Russians and the State Department want to see happen. The time has come to stand up to the US and the world and say "No." We cannot vote for anyone who will not at least say that openly and publicly. That means Ihud Leumi. But don't leave it at that, citizens.

The Kadima party chairwoman was accused by her top rival in the upcoming elections for the prime minister's seat, Likud party chairman MK Binyamin Netanyahu, of conspiring with Prime Minister Ehud Olmert to offer the PA sweeping concessions that included dividing Jerusalem and internationalizing its holy sites.
Livni's spokesman firmly denied the allegations Friday afternoon, telling Israel National News, "The Minister believes that Israeli sovereignty -- religiously, nationally, culturally and strategically -- must be maintained over a united Jerusalem, including and foremost the religious sites."
The Israeli position negotiated by Livni, he said, was that "Jerusalem will be kept united."
"Minister Livni was not in the room with Prime Minister Olmert and Chairman Abbas when they had their conversation about this agreement. This is something that someone on the other side did," added her spokesman Gil Messing. "It was not the work of Minister Livni. She is against it in all terms that are possible to elaborate and she said so yesterday in the Cabinet."
It is equally clear, he warned, that even in a deal that Livni would support, Jews in Judea and Samaria would end up losing their homes. How many, he could not say. "I don't know the numbers. As many [sic] Jews will remain in their houses where they are right now, however, there will be a division of the land. It is untrue and unfair to say otherwise."
However, whether the plan would ultimately come to fruition will depend on the PA, he added. "It will be an agreement that will represent all of Israel's security needs, and is subject to any change of situation on the ground, including the fight against terrorism," he said, "most importantly the complete dismantling of terrorist infrastructure in the Palestinian Authority areas."

According to the Hebrew-language daily Yediot Acharonot, Olmert agreed to give up Jerusalem's holy sites under an international authority in a plan similar to that of the "Holy Basin" concept advanced during the administration of former U.S. President Bill Clinton.
Also under the plan, the Jewish State would transfer Arab neighborhoods in the eastern section of the capital to the PA.
Interestingly, the move was predicted by Netanyahu Wednesday morning in a keynote address by at the Jerusalem Conference at about the same time that Olmert was meeting in the capital with US Middle East envoy George Mitchell.
The plan also calls for at least 60,000 Jewish residents to be expelled from their homes in Judea and Samaria, and Israel would withdraw from most of its territory in the region, with the exception of several large populated blocs. The operation would dwarf the 2005 Disengagement from Gaza, a move which has brought one million Israelis under rocket fire from Gaza, besides leaving thousands jobless and in transitional housing to this day.
The new Arab state that would be formed within Israel's current borders would also be provided with geographic contiguity through a series of tunnels and a new highway that would be built to connect Gaza with Judea and Samaria.
However, the prime minister refused to allow the immigration of millions of Arabs and their descendants who fled their homes in the State at the behest of Israel's invading enemies during the 1948 War of Independence, a demand the PA has called the "right of return."
24-hour Media Silence: 'Private Diplomatic Conversation'
A curious cloak of silence by local and international media stifled news of the agreement for almost 24 hours after the initial report was published in the Thursday morning front-page article in Yediot Acharonot.
The paper reported that Olmert had closed on the deal with Mitchell during their meeting Wednesday and provided details about the plan.
However, by nightfall it was impossible to find a trace of the report, which had inexplicably disappeared from the media radar. An internet search revealed not one reference to the day's discussion, with the exception of a lone AFP article in a Philippine newspaper.
Olmert spokesman Mark Regev brushed off late-evening attempts by Israel National News to obtain information about the agreement. "You can ask me anything you want about it," he said," but I don't want to confirm or deny anything. It was a private diplomatic conversation," he said.

Netanyahu lost no time in going on the offensive Friday morning, telling listeners in an interview on IDF Army Radio that he would not uproot any Jews from their homes if he is elected prime minister in the upcoming polls.
The Knesset Opposition leader also said he would not be bound by any deals concluded by the prime minister, and accused Livni of making dangerous concessions in her role as head negotiator with the Palestinian Authority.
"She said she was a partner to all the decisions made by the Kadima government," he said. "Now we see what she decided and what she conceded."

As he prepares to leave office, Prime Minister Ehud Olmert found time to meet with US Mideast envoy George Mitchell during his first official visit to Israel in the Obama administration.
Topping their discussions were issues pertaining to a Gaza ceasefire and related matters but Olmert found time to entertain his high-level guest who is also seeking to advance the White House´s agenda vis-à-vis the PA (Palestinian Authority).
According to reports, the prime minister signaled Israel's approval to the expulsion of 60,000 of the approximately 250,000 residents of Yehuda and Shomron towards realizing a 'final status' agreement between Israel and the PA.
While Olmert already indicated a "massive evacuation" was required in a Rosh Hashanah interview in Yediot Achronot, this marks a step forward towards the implementation of such a move chas v'sholom.
Eastern areas of Yerushalayim would fall under PA rule and religious sites would be under an international jurisdiction, promising access to the three major religions. (We see how the promised access has worked regarding Kever Yosef in Shechem and the Shalom Al Yisrael Shul in Yericho, with both having been burned to the ground numerous times and constantly being defiled by PA residents).
There will be territorial contiguity for PA residents in Yehuda and Shomron, connecting to Gaza via a network of roadways, including a tunnel system. So-called refugees from 1948 will not be granted a right of return, but in the past, the PA has stated there will be no deal without the return of at least some of these peoples' families.
When asked why these matters are not being formulated into a draft agreement, Olmert explained PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas (Abu Mazen) cut ties until following the elections on February 10th.
Olmert proudly told Mitchell that he heard senior Bush administration officials' state the current offer "Is the most generous Israeli offer to date towards reaching a settlement".
There is much anger in Jerusalem from all the candidates seeking the premiership, realizing the prime minister, who has a limited number of days in office, is seeking to commit the incoming government.

Now may I can ask; what connection does Gaza have with peace on the Golan? What is Olmert mumbling about? Worse, Pres. B. Assad of Syria responded within two days of his mumbles, telling a Lebanese newspaper that he is ready to negotiate peace, "even with Netanyahu." Meaning, more great news for Israel in the next government. And as for Israel; it's prepared to buy the Golan from Syria.
The old writer's memory kicks in and he's back to the mid-90s when he earned most of his income writing for trade magazines. I was glancing through the real estate pages of the Hebrew newspaper, Globes, when I saw a small item about a little deed Israel owns. It seems that the French Rothschild family, in the late nineteenth century, purchased 20,000 acres in the Golan Heights and in nearby Syria. The deed was later transferred to the real estate arm of Israel, the Jewish National Fund.
I immediately saw the historic diplomatic significance of the item and called my PR source at the JNF. Back then I wrote for a few of the world's biggest water industry journals and the JNF were very pleased with my prominent articles. So I took the liberty of asking my source to photocopy this Syrian land deed for my next story. She promised to call me back and when she did, it was with a request to meet with the spokesman for the JNF.
One can only imagine the extravagant office the head of an agency collecting hundreds of millions of dollars annually must be; the Georgian furniture, tasteful 18th century Flemish art, rare Middle Eastern carpets. Well, forget it, this was Israel. The only art were hoaky JNF redeem the land posters and the furniture was an old desk and the same chairs as in the reception area. The impression of the office has withstood the ravages of the writer's memory.
As did what the spokesman told me. "We can't give you a photocopy of the deed. The government sequestered it. And, off the record, I'm asking you not to remind your readers about the matter."
"Is that your idea?" I asked.
"Between us, no. My superiors consider this a very sensitive subject."
"Then you realize that the JNF owns proof that Israel owns a good chunk of Syria and we could negotiate with the Syrians with a pat hand?"
"Owned. The proof was removed. And don't ask me the ways of diplomacy. This is the one JNF issue that we are banned from publicizing."

The old grey matter kicks in again. In the late 80s sometime, you look it up, I'm too overworked, Yasir Arafat's plane crashed in Libya, and Qaddafi allowed the US Air Force to go looking for him. I told you. Don't ask why. You think I know everything? Or even anything? They just did, okay?

The movement to liberate Jonathan Pollard was as hilarious as ever this month. They actually petitioned outgoing Pres. Bush to pardon him. They claimed to have clogged

Several Iranian media sources are quoting Mahdi Khazali – the son of a leading supporter of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad – as having written in a blog that the president has Jewish roots. So reports the Hebrew-language Omedia website and Radio Free Europe.
Khazali, son of Ayatollah Abu Al-Kassam Khazali, says that Ahmadinejad changed his Jewish name on his ID card in order to hide his roots. Khazali the son says that the president hides his Jewish roots by attacking Israel and the Jews, and by expressing strong Muslim religious beliefs.
A record of the name change still appears on the president's ID card, however, says Khazali. His old name was Saburjian, and he hails from the Aradan region of Iran. The accusations appear in an article Khazali wrote entitled, "The Jews in Iran." He says the time has come to "reveal the truth" about the Jews' role in Iran.
Ahmadinejad's relatives once told the British paper "The Guardian" that the family had changed its name for "a mixture of religious and economic reasons."

ISRAEL LOSES and How It Could Have Been Different

Such a waste of lives, property and dignity, just to pave the way for the next and bigger waste of lives, property and dignity over Gaza.
Condeleeza Rice forced a ceasefire down Israel's throat, co-signed by Germany, Italy, Spain, France, Britain and the EU...the usual gang of warmongers. This, as the IDF was poised to rid the world of Hamas and bring in Fatah to rule Gaza. It's heads or tails anyway you look at it. But for this fight, Israel had the quiet, jubilant backing of Egypt, Fatah and the ruling establishment of much of the Arab world. It won't ever be this good diplomatically again.
Knowing that the government was about to betray the south of the country, and its bravest soldiers who saw comrades fall for nothing, as usual, an atrocity was launched to immediately change public opinion. In the spirit of the shadow government's slaughter of Arabs in 1994 to push along the withdrawal from Hebron, another Arab was chosen as the object of the Israeli people's instinctive pity. A Gazan surgeon who works in Israel, Dr.Izzeldin Abublaish, had his home targeted by an Israeli tank, losing three daughters, and the hideous scene was reported seconds later by the grieving, shocked doctor by cellphone to TV Channel Ten's reporter Shlomi Eldar.
And if you think this ghastly massacre wasn't planned, then you don't know the psychological warfare the Israeli government and media play with the people.
Now with Israel pulling out, Hamas will tell its people they won. And God save anyone who disagrees.The little bully Hamas will shout that Israel cheated. They played dirty. And the mean old Americans backed them up, thus, we stood up to the greatest fighters on earth. Therefore, we are the bravest of them all.

But bigmouth Hamas knows he was overpowered and he's already preparing to bring bigger kids with him next time. But first, a little body-building course is called for. And someday the pipsqueak boaster is going to grow up and he's going to be bigger than Israel. And Israel will regret not finishing him off when they had their chance. But Israel chickened out and it will eventually pay for it.
For now, Israel is going to learn that mass destruction isn't winning. That 1400 enemy bodies isn't winning. Only victory is winning.
This is in stark contrast to the war I fought in, the Lebanon War of 1982. Then, the government stated the war's goal was to remove the PLO from the region. To do so, at great cost, it entered Beirut and surrounded the PLO's neighborhoods. It took almost two months but the PLO were forced onto ships out of Lebanon.
To prevent loss of life, the IDF showered a targeted neighborhood with leaflets offering a choice; the PLO surrenders within 24 hours and comes out with its arms in the air, or your neighborhood will be destroyed, including, if need be, by carpet bombing. Innocents were told where to gather safely. It was up to the PLO to save the neighborhood by complying with Israel's terms. There was no room for negotiation. It was unconditional surrender or continuing war.
It was a nasty strategy interspersed with utilities cutoffs and the like, but this was a war of survival and Israel won it. And if Israelis with a different agenda hadn't shoved the Oslo war accord down the country's throat a decade later, this latest bloodbath would never have occurred.
In this invasion Israel should have offered as a first condition; bring us Gilad Shalit, or more likely, his remains, to our lines within 24 hours or face our wrath. That is war with a purpose. The only purpose of the latest invasion was to prepare for the next one. And I have a fair idea when it will come.
Few bothered to notice, but in the twenty days of the Gazan operation, it only rained once, and barely. By joining Jordan and the PA with Israel's water grid in the name of peace, the Kinneret and the artesian wells which served Israel well for 60+ years, in drought and plenty, are all but used up. Come summer, the next fight will be over a glass of water.

"We were handcuffed and blindfolded. They put us in a three-meter deep ditch with some 70 other people," Majdi Muhammad Ayid al-Atar, 43, from northern Gaza described in his testimony.
"We spent two days there without any food, water or blankets. They also didn't let us go to the toilet. Afterwards they moved us to another ditch. The soldiers kept beating anyone who dared ask for anything," he recounted.
Another detainee, Samir Ali Muhammad Atar, described: "The soldiers ordered us to climb down the crater and we were held there for two days… the soldiers kept us exposed to the bitter cold and only on the third days gave every two of us a blanket to share. Throughout this time we were handcuffed and slept on the ground."
According to the organizations, the detainees suffered from hunger, were not allowed to relieve themselves, "and worse even – some of them were being held near tanks and in war zones in blatant violation of international humanitarian law."
They noted that separate complaints about specific cases of torture and abuse would be submitted separately.
In light of these testimonies, the groups demanded that an independent and thorough inquiry be launched, "In order to ensure that such treatment does not repeat itself."

(IsraelNN.com) The son of a leading Iranian authority accuses the Iranian President of changing his Jewish name.
Several Iranian media sources are quoting Mahdi Khazali – the son of a leading supporter of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad – as having written in a blog that the president has Jewish roots. So reports the Hebrew-language Omedia website and Radio Free Europe.
Khazali, son of Ayatollah Abu Al-Kassam Khazali, says that Ahmadinejad changed his Jewish name on his ID card in order to hide his roots. Khazali the son says that the president hides his Jewish roots by attacking Israel and the Jews, and by expressing strong Muslim religious beliefs.
A record of the name change still appears on the president's ID card, however, says Khazali. His old name was Saburjian, and he hails from the Aradan region of Iran. The accusations appear in an article Khazali wrote entitled, "The Jews in Iran." He says the time has come to "reveal the truth" about the Jews' role in Iran.
Ahmadinejad's relatives once told the British paper "The Guardian" that the family had changed its name for "a mixture of religious and economic reasons."
Ahmadinejad will be running for re-election five months from now.
Print(IsraelNN.com) The Chief Rabbinate broke ties with the Vatican on Tuesday in protest of the Pope's decision to reinstate Bishop Richard Williamson, who is a known Holocaust denier. Williamson recently claimed that 200,000 to 300,000 Jews were murdered by Nazis during the Holocaust, not six million.
Rabbinate Director-General Oded Weiner wrote a letter to the Holy See Commission for Religious Relations with the Jews explaining the decision. "Without an official apology and recanting, it will be difficult to continue the dialog," he said.

(IsraelNN.com) The Yesh Din group has called on Defense Minister Ehud Barak to fire IDF Chief Rabbi Avichai Ronsky for alleged "incitement." The group said Ronsky had distributed packages to soldiers on their way into Gaza during Operation Cast Lead that it claimed contained "shameful mesages bordering on racist incitement against the Palestinian people, as well as messages that can be interpreted as license to operate outside the bounds of international law."
The IDF Chief Rabbi, who came to the Gaza front lines in full battle gear to bless Israel's soldiers moments before they entered battle, had himself served as a former commander in an elite combat unit, and had fought in the Yom Kippur War. He distributed religious material connected with the Jewish view of how one conducts battle with the enemy.

PARIS (AFP) — A few lucky people in the Indian Ocean will be treated to a rare event on Monday when an annular solar eclipse will transform the Sun into a dark disc with a blazing ring-shaped corona around its rim.
In solar eclipses, the Moon moves between the Sun and Earth, casting its shadow on the terrestrial surface.
In an annular eclipse, a tiny shift in distance that results from celestial mechanics means the Moon does not completely cover the Sun's face, as it does in a total eclipse.
Instead, for those directly under the alignment, the Moon covers most of the Sun's surface, and a ring-like crown of solar light blazes from the edge of the disk.
For those watching from the fringe of the track, the Sun is partially obscured, as if a bite has been taken out of it.
According to veteran NASA eclipse-watcher Fred Espenak, the total eclipse track will run from west to east on Monday from 0606 GMT to 0952 GMT.
It will traverse the Indian Ocean and western Indonesia before petering out just short of Mindanao, the Philippines.
The partial eclipse will be seen in a much wider swathe, including the southern third of Africa, Madagascar, Australia, Southeast India, Southeast Asia and Indonesia.
It will be the only annular solar eclipse this year. The last was on 7 February, 2007, and after Monday, the next one will be on 15 January, 2010.
The big event for eclipse junkies this year is on July 22, when a total solar eclipse will be visible from India and China, the world's two most populous countries.

The sages tell us that a solar eclipse is a bad omen for the goyim, and a lunar eclipse is a bad omen for the Jews, G-d forbid. Explanation: In this world, there exists an ongoing struggle between Israel and the nations. The moon symbolizes the Jewish People, while the sun symbolizes the gentiles. For everything in nature and in our physical world are symbols for spiritual things. And so when a solar eclipse occurs, this phenomenon in nature symbolizes an "eclipse" of the goyim who are represented by the sun.
In similar fashion, the sages say that if a Jew has a trial against a gentile, he should try to have the trial fall during the month of Adar, which is a lucky month for the Jews, and not during the month of Av, which is an unlucky month. Does this mean that the Jew MUST win during the month of Adar, or during a solar eclipse? No. It means that G-d set down certain times which are more favorable than others, and if the Jew makes an effort, or improves his ways, he has a greater opportunity to succeed during that time.
Therefore, if at the time of the solar eclipse, the Jews would make an effort, even a relatively small one, in the right direction - it would be enough to bring success against the goyim. But if the Jews insist on doing the very opposite - if during the solar eclipse (and that's exactly what happened), the government of Israel meets with the Arabs on how to fulfill the Wye Agreement to the letter, then obviously there isn't an eclipse or any other "mazal" that will help us. For we, with our very hands, bring about our own lunar eclipse.(which symbolizes Israel).
When we don't take capitalize on the many opportunities which G-d gives us to remove ourselves from the mud we have placed ourselves in, we can only blame ourselves. In conclusion, free choice is stronger than all the omens and "mazals", and is essentially THE deciding factor.

In a move that many Jewish community officials said would cause relations between Jews and Catholics to further deteriorate, the Vatican on Saturday lifted an excommunication ban against Bishop Richard Williamson, one of four bishops who were banned in 1988 for taking on the office of bishop against the wishes of then-Pope John Paul II.
Williamson is a Holocaust denier, and has repeatedly said that the gas chambers did not exist and that no more than 300,000 Jews were killed during World War II, mostly of starvation. In addition, Williamson has declared that the Jews are plotting to take over the world, and that the U.S. and Israel were behind 9/11.
In an interview with Swedish television conducted last November but broadcast last week, Williamson said that he believed that there were "no gas chambers."
"Between 200,000-300,000 perished in Nazi concentration camps, but not one of them by gassing in a gas chamber," he said, adding, "I believe that the historical evidence is hugely against 6 million having been deliberately gassed in gas chambers as a deliberate policy of Adolf Hitler."

Williamson has had a long history of Holocaust denial. In a 1989 sermon in Sherbrooke, Canada, Williamson said that "there was not one Jew killed in the gas chambers. It was all lies, lies, lies. The Jews created the Holocaust so we would prostrate ourselves on our knees before them and approve of their new State of Israel... Jews made up the Holocaust, Protestants get their orders from the devil, and the Vatican has sold its soul to liberalism." In dozens of sermons and letters, Richardson reiterated the same theme, adding that Hitler "liberated" Germany from the Jews.

Jewish community officials have expressed serious concerns over the Pope's move. Rabbi Shmuel Ricardo Di Segni, the Chief Rabbi of Rome, told reporters that the rehabilitation of Williamson opens "a deep wound" in Catholic-Jewish relations.
The Anti-Defamation League, an anti-Semitism watchdog group, said that the reinstatement "could become a source of great tension between Catholics and Jews." The umbrella group of Jewish communities in France called Williamson "a contemptible liar whose sole objective is to reawaken centuries-old hatred against the Jews."
In a report, Reuters quoted Mordechai Lewy, Israel's ambassador to the Vatican, as saying that Israel "has no intention of interfering in the internal workings of the Catholic Church. However, the eagerness to bring a Holocaust denier back into the Church will cast a shadow on relations between Jews and the Catholic Church."
A Vatican spokesman said that the lifting of the ban had nothing to do with Williamson's views. "It has nothing to do with the personal opinions of a person, which are open to criticism, but are not pertinent to this decree."

JERUSALEM (AFP) — Israel's deadly war in the Hamas-run Gaza Strip can advance the Middle East peace process, Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni said on Monday ahead of a visit by the new US peace envoy to the region.
The Jewish state's 22-day assault had dealt a heavy blow to the Islamists and should be used to strengthen moderate Palestinians, Livni said in a meeting with US ambassador to Israel James Cunningham.
Her comments came just days before US President Barack Obama's newly-appointed Mideast envoy George Mitchell was due to arrive in the region and two weeks before Israel holds a general election in which Livni is one of the leading candidates.
"Operation Cast Lead can and should mark a turning point not only for calm in the south of the country, but also with making progress in regional processes that Israel and the United States wish to advance," her office quoted her as saying at the meeting.
"The operation strategically changed the standing of Hamas and extremist elements and can be used as a lever by the US and the international community to change reality" during Obama's term, said Livni, who heads the centrist Kadima party in the February 10 elections.
"Israel will not return to the status quo before the operation and the weakness of Hamas must be used to strengthen moderate elements."
Livni headed the Israeli negotiation team in the latest round of peace talks with the Palestinians which have made next to no progress since they kicked off in November 2007.
The Jewish state launched its 22-day offensive in Gaza on December 27 in response to consistent rocket fire on Israel. More than 1,300 Palestinians were killed during the offensive which devastated the impoverished enclave.

Let's cut through all the fluff.
There is only one reason to vote Likud and that is to make sure that Kadima does not get a chance to form a government with the Haredim (which they will readily agree to because of the BBI Factors: Bribery, Blackmail and Intimidation --- the Democratic Process).
On the other hand, Bibi has already made it clear that he is not to be trusted (just in case someone was in doubt) and neither is the Likud. I cannot explain why Benny Begin has joined but it doesn't matter. Bibi has packed the party with people like Dan Meridor, who is in the Likud (when he is in the Likud) only because his name is "Meridor." Being that he and people like him are the ones featured by Bibi means that the party is committed to the continuation of national debasement and surrender in the name of "peace." On the other hand, if Likud runs much stronger than Kadima and Labor, someone pointed out quite realistically, then Bibi will prefer to form a coalition with Kadima and Labor and leave the right out in the cold in feckless opposition.
Lieberman has come out in the past in favor of territorial exchanges with the "Palestinians," trading places like Um Al Fahm for the settlement blocs. But we know, as Eve Harrow pointed out, that any place given over to the Arabs will become a firing position against us and the world will sanctify it as "peace process." So Yisrael Beiteinu cannot be trusted either.
Yihud Leumi has yet to prove that it can even pass the threshold, let alone be big enough to be an effective force in either the coalition or in opposition. What to do?
Frankly, on the whole issue of the election, citizens, I fear we are shadow boxing. If, after all the country has been through in the last 16 years, we still have the same failed leaders being shuffled around like musical chairs, then there is no point in the whole game. If no one can get tens of thousands of Israelis out on the pavement in outrage, demanding an end to the Oslo process, constitutional reform, clipping the power of the Supreme Court and the criminal system of justice, and end to the iron control of the ruling elite, then Israelis are brain dead and voting for another ensemble consisting of the same old talking heads will change nothing.

PARIS (AFP) — A few lucky people in the Indian Ocean will be treated to a rare event on Monday when an annular solar eclipse will transform the Sun into a dark disc with a blazing ring-shaped corona around its rim.
In solar eclipses, the Moon moves between the Sun and Earth, casting its shadow on the terrestrial surface.
In an annular eclipse, a tiny shift in distance that results from celestial mechanics means the Moon does not completely cover the Sun's face, as it does in a total eclipse.
Instead, for those directly under the alignment, the Moon covers most of the Sun's surface, and a ring-like crown of solar light blazes from the edge of the disk.
For those watching from the fringe of the track, the Sun is partially obscured, as if a bite has been taken out of it.
According to veteran NASA eclipse-watcher Fred Espenak, the total eclipse track will run from west to east on Monday from 0606 GMT to 0952 GMT.
It will traverse the Indian Ocean and western Indonesia before petering out just short of Mindanao, the Philippines.
The partial eclipse will be seen in a much wider swathe, including the southern third of Africa, Madagascar, Australia, Southeast India, Southeast Asia and Indonesia.
It will be the only annular solar eclipse this year. The last was on 7 February, 2007, and after Monday, the next one will be on 15 January, 2010.
The big event for eclipse junkies this year is on July 22, when a total solar eclipse will be visible from India and China, the world's two most populous countries.

The sages tell us that a solar eclipse is a bad omen for the goyim, and a lunar eclipse is a bad omen for the Jews, G-d forbid. Explanation: In this world, there exists an ongoing struggle between Israel and the nations. The moon symbolizes the Jewish People, while the sun symbolizes the gentiles. For everything in nature and in our physical world are symbols for spiritual things. And so when a solar eclipse occurs, this phenomenon in nature symbolizes an "eclipse" of the goyim who are represented by the sun.
In similar fashion, the sages say that if a Jew has a trial against a gentile, he should try to have the trial fall during the month of Adar, which is a lucky month for the Jews, and not during the month of Av, which is an unlucky month. Does this mean that the Jew MUST win during the month of Adar, or during a solar eclipse? No. It means that G-d set down certain times which are more favorable than others, and if the Jew makes an effort, or improves his ways, he has a greater opportunity to succeed during that time.
Therefore, if at the time of the solar eclipse, the Jews would make an effort, even a relatively small one, in the right direction - it would be enough to bring success against the goyim. But if the Jews insist on doing the very opposite - if during the solar eclipse (and that's exactly what happened), the government of Israel meets with the Arabs on how to fulfill the Wye Agreement to the letter, then obviously there isn't an eclipse or any other "mazal" that will help us. For we, with our very hands, bring about our own lunar eclipse.(which symbolizes Israel).
When we don't take capitalize on the many opportunities which G-d gives us to remove ourselves from the mud we have placed ourselves in, we can only blame ourselves. In conclusion, free choice is stronger than all the omens and "mazals", and is essentially THE deciding factor.

In a move that many Jewish community officials said would cause relations between Jews and Catholics to further deteriorate, the Vatican on Saturday lifted an excommunication ban against Bishop Richard Williamson, one of four bishops who were banned in 1988 for taking on the office of bishop against the wishes of then-Pope John Paul II.
Williamson is a Holocaust denier, and has repeatedly said that the gas chambers did not exist and that no more than 300,000 Jews were killed during World War II, mostly of starvation. In addition, Williamson has declared that the Jews are plotting to take over the world, and that the U.S. and Israel were behind 9/11.
In an interview with Swedish television conducted last November but broadcast last week, Williamson said that he believed that there were "no gas chambers."
"Between 200,000-300,000 perished in Nazi concentration camps, but not one of them by gassing in a gas chamber," he said, adding, "I believe that the historical evidence is hugely against 6 million having been deliberately gassed in gas chambers as a deliberate policy of Adolf Hitler."
Back to Middle Ages
Williamson has had a long history of Holocaust denial. In a 1989 sermon in Sherbrooke, Canada, Williamson said that "there was not one Jew killed in the gas chambers. It was all lies, lies, lies. The Jews created the Holocaust so we would prostrate ourselves on our knees before them and approve of their new State of Israel... Jews made up the Holocaust, Protestants get their orders from the devil, and the Vatican has sold its soul to liberalism." In dozens of sermons and letters, Richardson reiterated the same theme, adding that Hitler "liberated" Germany from the Jews.
Richardson advocates a return to the Middle Ages, with the Inquisition the preferred model of the Catholic relationship to Jews. "As Catholic faith goes up, so Jewish power goes down, while as Catholic faith goes down, so Jewish power goes up. In the Catholic Middle Ages, the Jews were relatively impotent to harm Christendom. But as Catholics have grown over the centuries weaker and weaker in the faith, especially since Vatican II, so the Jews have come closer and closer to fulfilling their substitute-Messianic drive towards world dominion... When Spanish Catholics were truly Catholic, God granted them by 1492 to reconquer Spain from the Arabs, and then granted them to create a Catholic empire in the Americas."
Jewish community officials have expressed serious concerns over the Pope's move. Rabbi Shmuel Ricardo Di Segni, the Chief Rabbi of Rome, told reporters that the rehabilitation of Williamson opens "a deep wound" in Catholic-Jewish relations.
The Anti-Defamation League, an anti-Semitism watchdog group, said that the reinstatement "could become a source of great tension between Catholics and Jews." The umbrella group of Jewish communities in France called Williamson "a contemptible liar whose sole objective is to reawaken centuries-old hatred against the Jews."
In a report, Reuters quoted Mordechai Lewy, Israel's ambassador to the Vatican, as saying that Israel "has no intention of interfering in the internal workings of the Catholic Church. However, the eagerness to bring a Holocaust denier back into the Church will cast a shadow on relations between Jews and the Catholic Church."
A Vatican spokesman said that the lifting of the ban had nothing to do with Williamson's views. "It has nothing to do with the personal opinions of a person, which are open to criticism, but are not pertinent to this decree."

Anthony Cordesman opens his remarks on the "youth bulge" and other challenges to the US military by noting that neither 9/11 or the "war on terror" changed the basic reasons for the US military presence in the Middle East:

General Anthony C. Zinni, former Commander in Chief of US Central Command (USCENTCOM), agrees. In testimony before the Armed Services Committee in March 2000, he asserts that "primary among US interests in the USCENTCOM Area of Responsibility is the promotion of regional stability and the insurance of uninterrupted, secure access to Arabian Gulf energy resources."52 "Youth bulge" extremism, he goes on, threatens that objective. Zinni, as well as other proponents of the "youth bulge" theory, also notes that population growth in the Arabian Gulf region is "increasing dramatically, putting pressure on natural resources, specifically water, and economic systems."

To the chagrin of Jews worldwide, the Pope on Saturday lifted the excommunication ban of a British bishop who is a Holocaust denier. The bishop, Richard Williamson, is one of four bishops rehabilitated Saturday after being thrown out of the Catholic Church 20 years ago because of their refusal to accept changes in Catholic doctrine.
Williamson has several times in the past said that he doesn't believe that six million Jews were killed in the Holocaust. In his latest comments to Swedish interviewers last week, he said "I believe there were no gas chambers." The maximum number of Jews killed in the Holocaust was 300,000, he said. The pope's minister for peace and justice was accused yesterday of speaking like a Holocaust denier after comparing Gaza to a "big concentration camp".
Cardinal Renato Martino, a veteran Vatican diplomat with years of experience as the Pope's delegate to the United Nations, told an interviewer for L'Avvenire, the daily paper of the Italian bishops, that "nobody" in the Israel-Hamas dispute "sees the interests of the other, but only their own". He continued: "But the consequences of egoism are hatred for the other, poverty and injustice. The ones who pay are always the defenceless populations. Look at the conditions in Gaza: more and more it resembles a big concentration camp."
He added that "both sides" were to blame for the dispute and must be separated like feuding brothers. "The world cannot just look on, doing nothing," said Cardinal Martino. His comments were later echoed by Pope Benedict XVI, who said "the military option is not a solution and violence from whichever side must be firmly condemned".
But Israel and its supporters reacted angrily to the cardinal's implied comparison of Gaza to the concentration camps of Nazi Germany. "We are astounded to hear from a spiritual dignitary words that are so far removed from truth and dignity," said Yigal Palmor, a Foreign Ministry spokesman.
Rabbi Marvin Hier, dean of the Simon Wiesenthal Centre, went further, saying such comments "are only used against Israel by terrorist organisations and Holocaust deniers".
The row cast doubt on the Pope's tentative plan to visit the Holy Land in May.
Spare the Pieties on Gaza

Frankly, given a choice, I prefer the skinheads and other brutes who express their anti-Semitism openly. In such places, we know the enemy.
But please spare me the pieties and the righteous indignation of those "good people" protesting throughout Europe against Israel 's defensive operation in Gaza . True, thousands have taken up banners in support of Israel . At the same time, however, the streets of Europe (and even some in America ) are in an uproar. These are the "humanitarians" – the good, the noble, the refined who chant "Peace."
Now you're up and about? Now you speak? Where were you when, throughout the years, thousands of Jihadist bombs fell on Israel ? The streets of Europe were empty. There were no pictures in the newspapers of grieving Jewish mothers and fathers. You called it "peace" as long as the Arabs were doing the killing and the Jews were doing the dying. All was well with the world.
Suddenly, as Israel answered back, you found your CAUSE – and how self-righteous you are in your CAUSE.
You are the best and the brightest of Europe . You are educated. You attended the finest schools. You care for the birds, the bees, the bears, the trees. You favor free speech and freedom of religion. Strange it is, that the one and only place in the Middle East that shares your world-view, is Israel , and it is Israel that you slander.
Israel is a Jewish State. Is that your problem? At the first hint of Jewish self-defense, how quickly you show your true colors.
I've seen the photos of your candlelight vigils along the streets and boulevards of Europe , all of it, all these tears, in the service of those terrorists whom you call your brothers. Indeed you are related to Hamas (and Fatah) as once before, a mere generation ago, you were related to Hitler's storm troopers. Your angelic faces are touching – and disgusting. Your hypocrisy is transparent and nauseating.
You speak of disproportion. You want proportion? Give Israel a population of 300 million residing in 22 countries, similar to the Arab Muslims who surround and ambush Israel – instead of five and a half million Jews in one single country. There's plenty of "proportion" coming from your BBC, which delights in presenting one side of the story and picks up where Der Sturmer left off. Now, with this type of "news," we know how Europe was conditioned for a Holocaust.
Already we see nights of broken glass. Thank you, Europe, for reminding us why America was discovered just in time (and why Israel was redeemed many generations too late). You dare judge Israel ? In your deportations, your expulsions, your forced conversions, your inquisitions, your pogroms, you have no moral authority over Israel or even within your own borders . You gave all that up from 1492 to 1942.
To those on the Left who sought Peace, well dear Peace Lovers – Peace brought this on. "Land for Peace" made this happen as Land for Peace became Land for Jihad. "Painful Concessions" caused this war. "Goodwill Gestures" backfired. Want more "peace?" Give up the Golan Heights . Give up the entire West Bank . Give up Jerusalem . Imagine the "peace." As for those "innocent civilians" in Gaza , they were given a choice and they chose Hamas. They chose this pestilence.
As for those "refugee camps" – why are they "refugee camps" when Israel handed over all that territory for a nation to be built in peace and security alongside Israel ? Why are all Palestinians automatically refugees even after they've been given a home? The only true refugees are the t housands of Israelis who were driven from Gaza and still live in trailer parks. No tears for them in this world that still dreams of Auschwitz .
On this day, in response to a column I wrote about Theresienstadt, someone responded that I was incorrect; that Theresienstadt was not a prelude to Auschwitz , but rather "a vacation resort." I wrote back wishing this person a lifetime in such vacation resorts. I wish the same lifetime vacation resorts to all those parading throughout the streets of Europe with banners crying "death to Israel ."

WHY AREN'T JEWS SMARTer?

Just because we value education based on our thousands of years of living by the Torah which requires constant study?
Well, today the analysts of military accomplishments or losses are busy configuring the recent 22 days of War in Gaza against 8 years of Hamas launching from 8,000 to 10,000 Rockets, Missiles and Mortars against Israel's civilians. Many are blaming the "Three Stooges": Prime MInister Ehud Olmert (resigned due to imminent criminal indictments - but, still in power); Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni (a sycophant of the former U.S. Secretary of State, Condoleezza Rice); and Defense Minister Ehud Barak (known for running away from combat, leaving his soldiers and allies wounded and vulnerable) for quitting too soon and not finishing Hamas off. The smuggling tunnels are already being refurbished and running new weapons into Gaza, with Egypt keeping its eyes closed.
The future course for Israel will likely be entitled: "How to Abandon Victory and Lose a Nation".
How did Olmert, Livni and Barak manage to stage another blunder after the 2006 Lebanon War against Hezb'Allah blunder?
Both Hamas and Hezb'Allah are proxies of Iran and Syria, from whom Hezb'Allah and Hamas receive their advanced weaponry.
In a recent conversation with a world traveler and deep thinker, we discussed the thousands of Rocket and more advanced long-range Grad Missiles still in the hands of Hamas and Hezb'Allah. Our question was: Why did Hamas not score more hits on substantive targets?
My friend opined that the "unguided" Missiles supplied by Iran through Syria (often made by China or North Korea) deliberately did not yet come with guidance systems and, therefore, what Hamas fired was their pre-practice for their next saturation Missile attack when they launch a real war with guidance-controlled Missiles.
In other words, Iran did not want Hamas to be accurate. Their 8 years of launching Rockets, Missiles and Mortars was just "practice" for the real thing - and to terrorize the civilian population of Israel.
Clearly, if more important strategic targets were hit prematurely and obliterated (not "just" civilians), even the reluctant Leftist leaders and population of Israel would have to retaliate with devastating attacks on Iran and Syria - before Iran's nuclear weapons are ready.
But, if Iran, Syria, Hezb'Allah, Hamas and the internal Terror groups of Muslim Arab Palestinians were to be effective in a future attack, they needed launch crews who were sufficiently trained to fire advanced Missiles with accurate guidance systems. The inept leaders of Israel have not grasped what is happening, nor can they understand their own incoming Intelligence adequately to know what they must do - pre-emptively.
Coincidentally, the prominent military journal, U.S. DEFENSE NEWS of January 5 had a front page article by Barbara Opall-Rome on this very subject. The title was "HAMAS LONGER-RANGE ROCKETS THREATEN ISRAELI COMPANIES" (1). This was skillfully written from a military point of view (not political), outlining many of Israel's defense firms in the South of Israel within the current 40- kilometer range from Gaza's hidden and/or mobile launching pads. The DEFENSE NEWS article was accompanied by a map, showing where Israel's most important defense manufacturing firms near Gaza were located as follows:
1. Aeronautics Defense Systems (Yavne): UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles), C41 systems
2. Elbit Security Systems (Sderot): Homeland Security and defense systems.
3. IAI's Elta Systems (Ashdod): Radars and imaging processing

This article did not specify the civilian industry nor civilian targets like schools, hospitals, government buildings, mosques, etc. in the target range. Nor did it outline military targets in the Center or North - of which there are many. These are also vulnerable to guided Missile attack by Hezb'Allah and Iran.
But clearly, this stage of "practice" launching was to do modest damage and not provoke a full scale retaliatory strike against Iran and Syria. However, launching unguided missiles is excellent practice for a future launch of guided munitions. The guidance systems which are well-advanced now, would come from China, Russia and North Korea, with a high degree of accuracy. Keep in mind that Russia has sold Iran and Syria its most sophisticated guided ground-to-air Missiles, which come with training on how to maintain guidance systems to target. And the nuclear weapons' site Israel bombed in Syria on September 6, 2007 (Operation Orchard) was known to have come from North Korea.
In a saturation missile attack they (Hamas and/or Hebz'Allah) could take out all government buildings in Jerusalem - to include but not limited to, the Prime Minister's complex, the Knesset and military bases all well marked and located via satellite imagery.
Five or ten thousand long range guided missiles could destroy Israel's military capability, including her government leaders and institutions. (Granted - no doubt, some would think Israel would be better off without her current incompetent leadership but, the losses would be far greater than losing a few dimwits.)
One must presume that when (not if) Iran decides to unleash Syria, Hezb'Allah with its now 40,000 Katyushas and Hamas (replenished after Gaza), Iran will also likely launch nuclear weapons on Tel Aviv and Jerusalem.
As observed by military professionals, Israel (under the weak guidance of Olmert, Barak and Livni) caved in to US and European pressure. They did not finish off Hamas, even though then President George Bush expressed his support for Israel's defensive actions in the 22 day War against Hamas in Gaza. Most of the Hamas personnel and stockpiles of Missiles escaped unscathed.
US DEFENSE NEWS of January 5, 2009 also featured 2 other articles: "In Gaza, Both Sides Reveal New Gear: Better ISR, More Planning Back Israeli Strikes" and "Elbit Wins Israel's Contested Mini-UAV Award", all by Barbara Opall-Rome <bopallrome@defensenews.com>. When you read these articles and US DEFENSE NEWS regularly, then you can understand why the professionals in America consider Israel to be a really valuable strategic ally.
However, the Israeli government launched an internal propaganda campaign, telling her people that the government had achieved its goals when, in fact, they only succeeded in capturing fringe territory and impressing Gazans with blown up buildings. The IDF (Israel Defense Forces) were ready to finish the job in Gaza but, Israel's current leadership displayed cowardice - a yellow streak - for which they've become infamous.
Iran is ready to die for its radical Muslim beliefs while the Jewish State, who does not believe in National Suicide, nevertheless seems to be accepting such a fate at the behest of her leaders. No doubt, Israel will be able to launch some nuclear missiles in a second strike retaliation, unless of course, Shimon Peres, Ehud Olmert, Ehud Barak and/or Tzipi Livni gives the order to stand down any retaliation and accept surrender. Hamas proclaimed victory based on the facts that they had survived - even though they left hundreds of civilian casualties dead and wounded by hiding behind Hamas' own "human shields".
As an added thought, it is unlikely that US Intel would warn Israel of Iran's plans lest Israel move to strike Iran in a pre-emptive hit. It could be like the 1973 Yom Kippur attack and American insistence that Israel not pre-emptively hit Egypt and Syria whose plans of a surprise attack against Israel on Yom Kippur were known.
Before George W. Bush left office, he stymied any Israeli plans to strike Iran's nuclear weapons' facilities before it was completed and chose to stand down any U.S. force.
The number of guided and unguided missiles that could be launched in a saturation missile attack is incalculable. Would a mix of a hundred thousand of every imaginable missile be an exaggeration? I don't think so.
I haven't even factored in Egypt and Saudi Arabia, both of which have huge inventories of guided missiles, rockets, mortars and, of course, advanced aircraft and remain hostile.

(IsraelNN.com) At least 40 Al Qaeda terrorists were killed earlier this week by a plague called the Black Death.
The same disease that devastated Europe in the Middle Ages claimed terrorists training this week in a camp in Algeria. The dead were members of a group called AQLIM (Al Qaeda in the Land of the Islamic Maghreb), the largest and most powerful Al-Qaeda group outside the Middle East. The disease is accompanied by horrific symptoms, causing terrible suffering to its victims.
Print(IsraelNN.com) Italian journalist Lorenzo Cremonesi, who works with the Corriere della serra newspaper, reported Thursday that Hamas had vastly overstated the number of civilian deaths in Gaza. While Hamas claims that 1,330 residents of Gaza were killed in the operation and approximately 5,000 wounded, the real number of casualties was far lower, Cremonesi says.
Cremonesi's report was based on his own findings after touring hospitals in Gaza and talking to families of those killed or wounded. "It is sufficient to visit several [Gaza] hospitals to understand that the numbers don't add up," he explained.
Cremonesi estimated that between 500 to 600 people were killed in the fighting. Most were young men between the ages of 17 and 23 who were members of Hamas, he said.
Many hospitals had several empty beds, he reported. Hamas has stated that Gaza hospitals are filled to capacity due to the large number of victims, with many of the wounded being turned away due to the shortage of doctors and supplies.
The Italian report also confirmed Israeli allegations that Hamas had used civilians as human shields and used ambulances and United Nations buildings in the fighting. Those who tried to drive the terrorists away in order to protect their families were beaten.
Civilians told Cremonesi that they shouted at Hamas and Islamic Jihad terrorists to leave the area to avoid drawing Israeli fire on civilians. The terrorists responded by calling them "traitors," "collaborators" and "cowards," and insisted that any civilians killed would be martyrs destined for paradise.
Civilians also reported that Hamas terrorists disguised themselves as paramedics and drove ambulances during the fighting. In addition, terrorists launched rockets from UN buildings. Many of these actions are defined as war crimes.
"The knew they were weaker, but they wanted them [the Israelis] to fire on our houses, so they could accuse them of war crimes," a resident of the Gazan village Tel Awa explained.
Cremonesi said it was difficult to gather evidence against Hamas because residents were fearful. Civilians feared that if it was known they spoke against the group, they would be harshly punished, he explained.
Eisenberg: Many Didn't Know Their Homes were Booby-Trapped
Gaza Division Commander Brig.-Gen. Eyal Eisenberg reported on Thursday that Hamas had booby-trapped the homes of many civilians without their knowledge.
Many Gaza civilians were surprised to find explosives hidden under their houses, Eisenberg said, and noted that Hamas had placed roadside bombs throughout the area as well.
PrintThere is nothing whatever preventing the arms smuggling from resuming. It has in fact resumed. The word coming from soldiers is that the tunnels are operating at full capacity as if nothing had happened. The entrances to some of the tunnels may have been damaged but the tunnels themselves survived quite intact and the entrances were quickly repaired. I find it hard to believe that Ehud Barak really believes that Egypt will become Israel's first line of defense by stopping the weapons smuggling through the tunnels or that European observers will do anything more than observe the smuggling. He solemnly says he does and so do Olmert and Livni and clearly they want the voters to believe it. In fact, however, not many people are that stupid. If there is anyone who believes that either Egypt or Europe will take casualties to reduce a threat to Israel, I want some of they've been smoking. Furthermore, the top leadership of Hamas is still in the saddle and Hamas leadership in general seems to be intact, as also the ranks. I question how much of their arsenal the IDF was able to destroy. In sum, it appears that a lot of buildings have been destroyed, which will be quickly rebuilt with international assistance. Damage to Israeli buildings will also be repaired but with Israeli money only, just like after the Hezballah War. The Minister of De Fence is crowing about how Hamas has been sobered and will be deterred from attacking us again (as if he knows). I also want some of what he's been smoking. And the Foreign Minister is clamoring for her share of the credit for what the war accomplished, whatever that might be.
It has also occurred to us at Hashkem that a deal was made to keep things quiet until after the elections. Why would Hamas agree to such a deal? There are rivalries between clans in Gaza and Haniya might have wanted some of the rival clans put down. There were a number of large, expensive private mansions bombed and we are cynical enough to wonder if they weren't part of such a deal. Just speculation. Similarly, why was it important to complete the withdrawal before Obama's inauguration? Did Israel's leaders get a promise of a quid pro quo in the form of Obama smiling at them and saying nice things and making them look good for the Israeli voters? Again, it's just speculation. But is it inherently credible? If it is, then that, in and of itself, says a great deal. If someone had suggested such a thing about Shamir or Begin or Be-Gurion, it would have been laughable.

That has been the rallying cry against Ehud Barach oops! Barak ever since he ran for cover instead of helping the wounded at the training accident at Tzehelim Bet and how he ordered our troops to flee Southern Lebanon, which enabled Hizbullah to arm against Israel.
The vast majority of Israelis are disgusted and disappointed by Israel's early withdrawal from Gaza and the pre-mature cessation of Operation Cast Lead, aka the Election Campaign War.
Ironically, Tzachi Hanegbi, whose mantra used to be "Barak Barach," now sounds just like him in his announcement:
"Hamas militants face a simple equation," Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee Chairman Tzachi Hanegbi told Army Radio. "If the [rocket] fire resumes, we will respond with force so strong and overpowering, they will miss the day the Israel Air Force's offensive began." (hat tip IMRA)
Barak's reign as Prime Minister was full of threats like that, but he never followed through, and we ended up with the worst bout of Arab terrorism ever. The media calls it "The Second Intifada," not that I remember any announcemt by the terrorists that they had ended the sic "first" one. There were periodic lulls, like when ocean water recedes between waves.
Ehud Barak was elected during such a lull, and then he so mishandled the subsequent terrorism, emboldening the terrorists by his unilateral campaign promise withdrawal from Southern Lebanon, that most of the country felt under siege. We were forced to get bullet-proof vehicles or travel dressed in heavy bullet-proof vests. My sons were serving in the army at the time, and I was more nervous about their walking in Jerusalem than when they were doing their actual military tasks.
Today, what frightens me is the national amnesia, which has allowed that same Ehud Barak to return to politics as head of the Labor Party and subsequently become Defense Minister. As IDF Chief of Staff, he was instrumental in downgrading the army which caused the many mistakes in Olmert's Lebanese War fiasco of two and a half years ago.
And now, Ehud Barak is willing to accept continued smuggling of arms by Hamas into Gaza. All I can think of is that a deal was made via the Egyptians to keep things "quiet" until after Israeli elections.
Please don't forget that one of the new U.S. President Obama's highest priority Foreign Policy aims is to establish a new Arab country in the very heart of Israel.
My husband and I just spent close to a week on vacation in Eilat, sans internet. That's why I haven't posted recently. We were dependent on TV news, which gave very little real information. Now we're back.
Most Israelis, Jews and concerned people all over the world are shocked that Israel ended Operation Cast Lead without the freeing of Gilad Shalit. What was the real point of that "war?" "War," "operation," "campaign," it doesn't matter what it's called. The important thing is to have a clear goal, and Israel doesn't. Our soldiers are motivated and want to to the job professionally. When we returned to Jerusalem from Eilat, we saw signs all over proclaiming that "the people have the fortitude to support the soldiers on the frontline." Our problem is that we're ruled by weak tired, selfishly ambitious and shortsighted politicians.
G-d is angry with them, and that's why there's no rain. But G-d loves the people, and that's why with all of the rockets and missiles launched at southern Israel, there were so few casualties.
With elections coming up, we have the opportunity to vote for true leaders. I'm voting for Ichud Le'umi, the only party which is uncompromising in its support for the People and Land and State and Security of Israel.

Climate Confusion

As a new president takes office and elevates global warming alarmism to official federal policy, much of America is experiencing record low temperatures. While the deep freeze amounts to little more than irony, Americans should nevertheless take what could well be a last opportunity to reconsider the cliff off which Barack Obama, Al Gore and the rest of the global warming industry want us to jump.
No doubt many experiencing the bitter cold this January have muttered under their breath that we could actually use some global warming about now. But the ongoing cold spell no more debunks global warming alarmism than Hurricane Katrina proved it was real. Weather, a short-term phenomenon, is simply not evidence of climate change, a long-term phenomenon. Weather is not the only natural phenomenon that is often misused as evidence of manmade climate change.
We've all read and heard about shrinking polar ice, receding mountain glaciers, endangered polar bears and a variety of other environmental phenomena that supposedly reflect the allegedly harmful effects of manmade greenhouse gas emissions. Alarmists have tried to induce the public to think that simply because the Arctic ice cap has shrunk on our watch, for example, then industrialized man must have caused it. The reason they do this is because they have been unable to prove their fundamental contention in the global warming debate - that manmade emissions of greenhouse gases drive global climate - despite the expenditure of tens of billions of dollars on climate research over the last 25 years.
Here are three indisputable scientific facts about climate that are sufficient on their own to throttle any claims of manmade global warming. First, we know from studies of Antarctic ice that, over the last 650,000 years or so, warmer temperatures have preceded increases in atmospheric carbon dioxide levels by hundreds, if not thousands of years. The ice studies indicate that the carbon-dioxide-causes-global warming theory is precisely backwards.
Second, during the 20th century, there is simply no correlation between carbon dioxide emissions and global temperature. Not only did most of the century's temperature rise occur before most of the century's manmade greenhouse gas emissions, but during 1940-1975 global temperatures actually declined while atmospheric carbon dioxide and carbon dioxide emission levels steadily increased.
Finally, the ultimate test of a scientific theory is whether it has predictive value. We used Newton's laws of physics, for example, to land men on the moon. Unfortunately, there are no climate models that predict trends and changes in global climate with any degree of accuracy. Think about the recent failures with hurricane season predictions or even the risk of relying on what your local weatherman predicts for tomorrow's weather - and you'll start to get an idea of how far away science is from predicting global climate 10, 50 and 100 years from now.
Although none of this is rocket science or a state secret, our government is nevertheless on the verge of saddling our society with draconian energy-use and rationing laws that will harm our economy and reduce our standard of living How did we find ourselves in this position?
You may be surprised to learn that it's not only or even mostly due to the persuasiveness and persistence of environmental activists. After all, how many people really believe Al Gore and Greenpeace? Ironically, we're in crushing jaws of global warming regulation thanks to big business and other rent-seekers, including Gore, who hope to profit from new laws.
Leading the lobbying charge on Capitol Hill is the U.S. Climate Action Partnership, a big business-environmental activist group coalition that is urging Congress to enact a so-called cap-and-trade bill. Under such legislation, Congress would issue permits to emit greenhouse gases (also called "carbon credits") to electric utility companies and other major emitters. The permits represent more than mere regulation since they have monetary value and are tradable among emitters. An electric utility, say, that emits more greenhouse gases than it has permits for, would be forced to purchase additional permits from another utility that had excess permits. Under cap-and-trade, Congress would issue more than one trillion dollars worth of permits over the programs first ten years - so there's a lot of money at stake. Who's set to profit from all this?
Manufacturing companies and USCAP members like Alcoa, Dow Chemical and Dupont want Congress to award them free carbon credits for actions they've taken since 1992 to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions in the U.S. - like moving manufacturing operations to other countries. They've not reduced their emissions so much as they've displaced them.
Other USCAP members include electric utilities like Exelon, Florida Power & Light, and NRG Energy. They use emission-free nuclear power to generate much of their electricity and anticipate having extra carbon credits that they can sell at high prices to major greenhouse gas emitters like coal burning utilities. Wall Street is also a big proponent of cap-and-trade in anticipation of investing in and facilitating the trading of carbon credits. Goldman Sachs, for example, owns part of the Chicago Climate Exchange and European Climate Exchange where carbon credits would be traded.
Many would-be climate profiteers don't care so much about cap-and-trade per se as they do any legislation that would mandate America's switch to new and more expensive forms of energy production and energy efficiency. USCAP member General Electric, for example, wants to sell wind turbines, pricey equipment for reducing carbon dioxide emissions from coal-fired utilities and high-priced but more energy-efficient industrial and consumer products. Al Gore is a partner in the venture capital firm of Kleiner Perkins which, as described in a New York Times Magazine cover story hopes to make billions of dollars of profits off global warming legislation.
Regular Americans who are not part of some global warming special interest group will be paying the price for all this. Expect the price of electricity and gasoline to skyrocket, as well as the prices of goods and services that are produced with energy. Remember the 2007-2008 spike in food prices caused by higher gasoline prices as well as the ethanol mandate? That's just the tip of the iceberg. Much more than mere money is at stake. The global warming mob wants to tell you where to live, what to drive, how many children you can have, what you can eat - all in the name of reducing your carbon footprint. Energy efficiency can be a good thing, but it can also be a bad thing when it's forced down your throat, costs you more money than it saves and robs you of your freedoms and dignity.
Action to reduce the dreaded "global" warming, of course, needs to be coordinated on a global basis, hence the need, climate alarmists intimate, for global government. "We are one" was a theme of Barack Obama's inauguration festivities - disturbingly similar to the Communist Chinese theme for the 2008 Beijing Olympics, "One World, One Dream." While such rhetoric may sound inspiring, the reality is that it is little more than a euphemism for central planning and, ultimately, "the road to serfdom" as economist Friedrich Hayek might say.
America's strength lies not in its one-ness, but in its diversity of beliefs and efforts. And it will take all our strength in the coming years to combat global warming alarmism and to keep America from falling into the totalitarian green abyss.

The site which features the threat is run by Yousef Al-Khattab, a New York City cabbie who operates an extremist Islamic anti-American Web site that features violent images on a daily basis : From the Statue of Liberty, with an ax blade cutting through her side; to a video mocking the beheading of American journalist Daniel Pearl, entitled "Daniel Pearl I am Happy Your Dead :) "; or the latest speech from Sheikh Abdullah Faisal, an extremist Muslim cleric convicted in the UK and later deported for soliciting the murder of non-Muslims.
The latest - a cartoon-like image depicting 770 Eastern Parkway, Lubavitch World Headquarters, as a target in retaliation for Israel's attacks on Gaza
Formerly known as Joseph Cohen, al-Khattab is an American-born Jew who converted to Islam after attending an Orthodox Rabbinical school, which he later described as a "racist cult."
The 39-year-old New York taxi driver launched RevolutionMuslim.com with the mission of "preserving Islamic culture," "calling people to the oneness of God" and asking them to "support the beloved Sheik Abdullah Faisal, who's preaching the religion of Islam and serving as a spiritual guide."
A mobile command center will be stationed in front of 770, Sperlin reports, and many more cops are being sent to patrol the neighborhood streets.
Two months ago, a meeting was held with major Crown Heights schools and organizations about keeping the community protected.
What the threats are or when they were made is not known, but Cleveland police, after consulting with the FBI, issued a divisional notice to keep extra attention on at least four Cleveland Jewish institutions.
Included in the warning are the Jewish Community Federation at East 17th Street and Euclid Avenue, West Temple at West 143rd Street and Trisket, the Temple at University Circle and the Cleveland Hillel Foundation at Case.
The local head of the FBI said, "We regularly receive threats and evaluate threat information. As these leads are run to ground, we reach out to community leaders to share information.
"Given the major events unfolding this week, out of an abundance of caution, we have worked with local authorities to increase patrols at some locations

There were 7 or 8 bias attacks against Jews in Brooklyn in the past week n half. The Police and the District Att wanted NO PUBLICITY. The war was about to be over and they figured if they don't announce the attacks the rest of them will keep quiet and it would all soon blow over. If they did announce maybe Jews would retaliate physically, rallies, or even politically.
I think that, in the present climate of hysteria, it would be wise to refrain from displaying red meat to the animals.As the Talmud advises: "When there is rage in the world, hide yourself from the beasts."
Spare the Pieties on Gaza

Frankly, given a choice, I prefer the skinheads and other brutes who express their anti-Semitism openly. In such places, we know the enemy.
But please spare me the pieties and the righteous indignation of those "good people" protesting throughout Europe against Israel 's defensive operation in Gaza . True, thousands have taken up banners in support of Israel . At the same time, however, the streets of Europe (and even some in America ) are in an uproar. These are the "humanitarians" – the good, the noble, the refined who chant "Peace."
Now you're up and about? Now you speak? Where were you when, throughout the years, thousands of Jihadist bombs fell on Israel ? The streets of Europe were empty. There were no pictures in the newspapers of grieving Jewish mothers and fathers. You called it "peace" as long as the Arabs were doing the killing and the Jews were doing the dying. All was well with the world.
Suddenly, as Israel answered back, you found your CAUSE – and how self-righteous you are in your CAUSE.
You are the best and the brightest of Europe . You are educated. You attended the finest schools. You care for the birds, the bees, the bears, the trees. You favor free speech and freedom of religion. Strange it is, that the one and only place in the Middle East that shares your world-view, is Israel , and it is Israel that you slander.
Israel is a Jewish State. Is that your problem? At the first hint of Jewish self-defense, how quickly you show your true colors.
I've seen the photos of your candlelight vigils along the streets and boulevards of Europe , all of it, all these tears, in the service of those terrorists whom you call your brothers. Indeed you are related to Hamas (and Fatah) as once before, a mere generation ago, you were related to Hitler's storm troopers. Your angelic faces are touching – and disgusting. Your hypocrisy is transparent and nauseating.
You speak of disproportion. You want proportion? Give Israel a population of 300 million residing in 22 countries, similar to the Arab Muslims who surround and ambush Israel – instead of five and a half million Jews in one single country. There's plenty of "proportion" coming from your BBC, which delights in presenting one side of the story and picks up where Der Sturmer left off.
