SOME DETAILS:

Concerning swine flu vaccine safety, the panel noted that the nation's current vaccine safety infrastructure is "unlikely to be sufficient." It called for strengthening vaccine safety surveillance for adverse events linked to H1N1 swine flu vaccination.

National Vaccine Advisory Committee, a group of outside experts that advises HHS on vaccine policy.

The U.S. Health and Human Services Department declared a public health emergency over swine flu in April, and the Food and Drug Administration has the power to allow the use of unapproved medical products during such a crisis...

Under the U.S. health emergency, the FDA may authorize the use of unlicensed vaccines, according to Peper Long, an agency spokeswoman.

The CDC has agreed to pay Glaxo and Novartis more than $415 million for adjuvants that could be added to the swine flu vaccine.

“Until GlaxoSmithKline and Novartis can show me it won’t harm a rat or guinea pig, I think it’s a bad idea to give it to humans,” Vicky Debold, a registered nurse with a Ph.D. in public health, who is a member of the FDA’s advisory committee for reviewing vaccines, said July 27 in an interview.

Last Wednesday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu instructed Deputy Health Minister Yaakov Litzman to purchase H1N1 vaccines for every member of Israel's population – 7.5 million people – at a cost of NIS 450 million ( end of July)

But meanwhile they have a great treatment, just "not for everybody"!

Dr. Robert Liddington, Burnham Institute in California:

....it won't be available to everyone.

This is not a vaccine at the moment that we're going to give to the entire population of North America. This is currently a drug that's going to be used judiciously and we would hope to quarantine a region and provide this anti-viral antibody, you know, to all the people within that region.

Dr Ruben Donis of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said the antibodies, called monoclonal antibodies because they attack one specific target only, protected mice from what should have been a lethal target of H5N1 avian flu virus — even up to three days later after infection.

“When we tried to select viruses that were resistant to the activity of these antibodies, we failed,” Donis told the briefing. “We could not get the virus to mutate and escape.”

Dr Wayne Marasco of Dana-Farber said it should be straightforward to develop the antibodies as drugs, because they are already used broadly in cancer therapy.

A single injection protects for three weeks. “It provides durable immunity,” Marasco said.

Cancer monoclonal antibodies can cost tens of thousands of dollars a year but Marasco said companies have learned how to make them more cheaply recently.

The National Institutes of Health, which funded the study, has patented the work and will seek a drug company to help make and test the antibodies.

Am Yisrael wants the Temple rebuilt!

(IsraelNN.com) A survey conducted by the Panels Institute revealed that 64 percent of the Israeli public, and half of secular Israelis, want the Temple rebuilt. Ninety-seven percent of respondents knew that the Temple was destroyed on Tisha B'Av (Ninth of Av).

The survey's second question queried the public’s desire to rebuild the Temple. Sixty-four percent responded favorably and 36 percent said no. Analysis of the answers revealed that not hareidi-religious and other religious Jews want to rebuild the Temple, (100 percent and 97 percent respectively), but also the traditional public (91 percent) and many secular Jews (47 percent) do as well.
