Es wurde bekannt, dass durch das Engagement von Staatspräsident Shimon Peres, der sich in der Sache an Ministerpräsident Netanjahu und Finanzminister Steinitz gewandt hat, ein Durchbruch bei den Kontakten über ein Wirtschaftabkommen mit dem Vatikan erzielt wurde.

Israel wird der katholischen Kirche in Israel Steuererleichterungen und die Befreiung von der "Arnona"-Stadtsteuer gewähren. Israel lehnte jedoch erneut den Antrag des Vatikans ab, die Kontrolle über den Saal des letzten Abendmahls auf dem Zionsberg zu erhalten.
