Rabbi Kanievski Blesses Ketzaleh
(IsraelNN.com) Ichud Leumi (National Union) leader Yaakov Ketzaleh met with Ultra-Orthodox Rabbi Chaim Kanievski on Monday to receive his blessings the day before the elections. Rabbi Kanievski is the nephew of the famed Rabbi known as the Chazon Ish and married to the daughter of Rabbi Yosef Elyashav, widely recognized as the leader of Ultra-Orthodox Lithuanian Jews.
Rabbi Kanievski expressed his satisfaction that Ketzaleh and the Ichud Leumi have pledged their dedication to Rabbinic guidance, and wished Ketzaleh "blessings and success" in the elections.
United Torah Judaism Appeals to Arab Voters
(IsraelNN.com) The United Torah Judaism party is trying to appeal to Arab voters who feel Israel is Our Home leader Avigdor Lieberman is racist. Party activists distributed flyers in Arabic with the title "Ultra-Orthodox Jews for Equality," according to Yediot Achronot.
UTJ MK Moshe Gafni explained, "We are against racism. We are for the Torah, in which it is written, 'You should love the stranger, for you were strangers in the land of Egypt.'" Gafni also explained that his party is against Lieberman's idea of a law which would require citizens to be loyal to the state.
