Barak Removes Supreme Court Bills from Agenda
(IsraelNN.com) Cabinet Secretary Ovad Yechezkel agreed Saturday to remove bills regarding the powers of the Supreme Court from the agenda of the legislative committee. The bills were removed following a request from Labor head Defense Minister Ehud Barak.
One bill would have reduced the presence of Supreme Court justices on the committee to appoint judges, while the other would have banned the appointment of temporary Supreme Court justices. Barak explained that he wished to remove the bills because he saw them as limiting the court's power. "Maintaining the prestige of the Supreme Court is a top priority of the Labor party," he said.
